HelloPharmacist Scorecard of 100% Pure Krill Oil Omega-3 350 mg by Walgreens
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 4 active ingredients: krill oil (a marine source of omega-3 fatty acids), omega-3 fatty acids themselves, eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid (the two main omega-3s found in krill), and astaxanthin (a natural antioxidant pigment from krill). The gelatin capsule is an inactive ingredient that holds everything together.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The product facts we have don't include effectiveness ratings for krill oil or omega-3 fatty acids for any condition. For astaxanthin — one of the actives in this blend — the evidence isn't established yet; we hold ratings of insufficient reliable evidence for age-related cognitive decline, macular degeneration, aging skin, Alzheimer's disease, athletic performance, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the research we have isn't strong enough to draw conclusions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Astaxanthin is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects reported are abdominal pain, diarrhea, and red-colored stools — a harmless discoloration from the pigment itself.
At higher doses, some people experienced severe stomach pain. Because there isn't enough safety data on astaxanthin, the evidence advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check any medications you take with the search tool below, especially those metabolized by the CYP3A4 or CYP2B6 liver enzymes (Moderate severity interactions with astaxanthin). If you're unsure which enzyme metabolizes your drug, your pharmacist can look it up for you.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take medications broken down by your liver — particularly those metabolized by CYP3A4 or CYP2B6 enzymes — check your exact drugs with the tool on this page before starting. Pregnant women and those breastfeeding should talk with their doctor or pharmacist before using this product.
Otherwise, krill oil is generally well tolerated by most people.

FDA Statement of Identity
Dietary Supplement
Formula
With phospholipids for easy absorption Unlike fish oils, krill oil carries omega-3s in the form of phospholipids - liposomes or little packages that deliver the fatty acids to your body's cells. Standard fish oils lack this phospholipid complex.
Antioxidant Protection Krill oil contains astaxanthin, which is not seen in standard fish oil. Astaxanthin may help maintain cell integrity.

100% Pure Krill Oil Omega-3 350 mg by Walgreens Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Walgreens' 100% Pure Krill Oil Omega-3 contains astaxanthin, which has documented interactions with certain medications.
The main concern is with drugs metabolized by your liver's CYP3A4 enzyme — astaxanthin may theoretically speed up how your liver clears these drugs, potentially making them less effective. This is a Moderate severity interaction based on lab research, though it hasn't been confirmed in humans yet.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Astaxanthin also theoretically affects drugs broken down by the CYP2B6 enzyme in your liver, which may lower their levels. Again, this is Moderate severity and hasn't been observed in actual patients.
We couldn't check three other ingredients in this product — eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, and phospholipids — because we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 661 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions before you start.

For each ingredient in 100% Pure Krill Oil Omega-3 350 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Krill Oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, krill oil may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Taking high doses of omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil can modestly decrease platelet aggregation. Since krill oil also contains these fatty acids, taking high doses of krill oil might also inhibit platelet aggregation. Theoretically, taking high doses of krill oil with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might increase the risk of bleeding. However, the omega-3 content of krill oil is much lower than that of fish oil.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking krill oil with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research in animals and humans shows that krill oil might lower blood glucose levels. However, a small study shows that taking krill oil does not reduce blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, most of whom were taking antidiabetes drugs.
