Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This capsule contains one active ingredient: alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine (alpha-GPC), a compound that naturally occurs in the body and is also found in food. The capsule also holds several inactive ingredients—mannitol, cellulose, maltodextrin, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide—which are fillers and binders that help hold the capsule together.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Memory and learning support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Alzheimer disease, Cognitive function, Vascular dementia, Age-related cognitive decline, Dementia, Memory.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Alpha-gpc is rated "Possibly Effective" for Alzheimer disease (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Alpha-gpc is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Cognitive function, Vascular dementia.

The evidence for alpha-GPC is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for Alzheimer disease, but for cognitive function, brain tumors, vascular dementia, and stroke, the evidence isn't established well enough for us to rate it.

The facts don't cover whether it works for other uses.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety data isn't fully established. It's rarely been linked to dizziness, headache, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, or diarrhea.

There's one rare serious concern: oral alpha-GPC has been associated with stroke, especially with use of 2 months or longer when compared with non-users. The data on safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding is not on file, so there isn't enough information to know either way—talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant or nursing.

Meds to double-check

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Alpha-gpc.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 16 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you use a scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) for motion sickness or nausea, check with your pharmacist before starting alpha-GPC—it may reduce how well the patch works. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Alpha-GPC might be worth considering if you're interested in Alzheimer support based on possibly effective evidence, but the long-term safety picture and evidence for other brain-related uses aren't solid yet. If you're using a scopolamine patch, check with your pharmacist first.

Talk to your doctor about whether this makes sense for your situation, especially if you're thinking of using it longer than a couple of months.

Scopolamine (Transderm Scop)

Theoretically, alpha-GPC might decrease the effects of scopolamine.
A small clinical study shows that alpha-GPC can partially counteract the attention and memory impairment effects caused by scopolamine given intramuscularly. Whether alpha-GPC can decrease the beneficial anti-motion sickness effects of the scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) is unclear.
