HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Alpha GPC 300 mg by Evlution Nutrition
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Alpha GPC 300 mg contains one active ingredient: alpha-GPC, a compound that supports brain cell membrane health and acetylcholine production — a neurotransmitter involved in memory and attention. The remaining ingredients are inactive: microcrystalline cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, hypromellose, vegetable stearate, and silicate — these are fillers and capsule materials that have no active role.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
Alpha-GPC is possibly effective for Alzheimer disease based on the evidence we hold. For cognitive function in people without dementia, brain tumor, vascular dementia, and stroke, the evidence isn't established — we don't have reliable data to rate it one way or the other.
If you're considering it for any of those other uses, talk with your pharmacist about what the broader research suggests.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety hasn't been fully established. Rare side effects from oral use include dizziness, excitation, headache, insomnia, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting.
There's an important caution: alpha-GPC use for at least 2 months has been associated with an elevated risk of stroke compared with non-users or short-term users. Pregnancy and lactation safety data isn't on file for this ingredient — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) for motion sickness, check with your pharmacist before adding this supplement — alpha-GPC may theoretically decrease its effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Alpha-GPC may help with Alzheimer disease, but evidence for other memory or brain uses isn't clear yet. If you take the scopolamine patch for motion sickness, check with us before starting.
The main safety concern is stroke risk with long-term use — that's worth discussing with your pharmacist before you commit to it.
