What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: alpha-GPC (150 mg per capsule), a compound that delivers choline to your brain. The capsules also contain inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, tricalcium phosphate, and cellulose — which are fillers and binders that make up the capsule.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Alpha-GPC is possibly effective for Alzheimer disease based on the evidence we hold. For cognitive function, vascular dementia, stroke, and brain tumors, the evidence isn't strong enough yet for us to rate it reliably.
If you're thinking about this for one of those conditions, talk with your doctor about what the current research suggests for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Alpha-GPC is generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety hasn't been fully established. In rare cases, people taking it orally have reported dizziness, headache, insomnia, and excitation.
Very rarely, it's been associated with diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting. Importantly, oral use for at least 2 months has been rarely linked to an elevated risk of stroke compared with non-users or shorter-term users.
We don't have enough safety information on alpha-GPC in pregnancy and breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you use the scopolamine patch (Transderm Scop) for motion sickness, check with your pharmacist — alpha-GPC may reduce its effectiveness. Altogether, these interactions span 16 individual medications.
Use the interaction checker below to verify your exact prescriptions before starting this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Alpha-GPC may be worth considering if you're interested in Alzheimer disease support and want to explore the evidence. If you use a scopolamine motion sickness patch or take any regular medications, check them first on this page.
Long-term safety data is limited, and the rare stroke association warrants a conversation with your pharmacist or doctor before you start.
