Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Antarctic Krill Oil by NutraMedix delivers 5 active ingredients: omega-3 fatty acids (including eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid), phospholipids, astaxanthin, and choline. The omega-3 and phospholipid compounds are what krill oil is known for—they're the marine lipids that make up the product's core.
Astaxanthin is a carotenoid pigment that gives krill its reddish color and is included for its antioxidant properties. Choline supports cell structure and brain function.
The capsules also contain gelatin, glycerol, sorbitol, water, and ethyl vanillin as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence supporting astaxanthin for specific conditions—including age-related cognitive decline, macular degeneration, aging skin, Alzheimer disease, athletic performance, and carpal tunnel syndrome—is insufficient to rate. We don't have reliable data showing it works for those uses.
Choline shows insufficient evidence for several conditions as well, though it is rated possibly ineffective for athletic performance. The omega-3 and phospholipid components are not rated in the data we hold for this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Astaxanthin is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are abdominal pain, diarrhea, and red-colored stools.
At higher doses (40 mg daily), severe stomach pain has been reported in a small number of people. The safety data advises against astaxanthin use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding due to insufficient information.
Choline is generally safe at food amounts, but high-dose supplements can cause side effects and have a daily upper limit of 3.5 grams. At very high doses (9 grams or more daily), choline may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and a fishy body odor.
Choline is important during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but you should use it only as advised by your doctor or under professional guidance.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Two ingredients here have documented interactions. Astaxanthin theoretically may decrease levels of Moderate-severity drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 and CYP2B6 enzymes—a very large medication class—though this has not been confirmed in humans.
Choline has a Minor interaction with atropine. Run your exact medications through the checker on this page before you begin.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Antarctic Krill Oil may appeal to you if you're looking for omega-3 support and don't mind the theoretical possibility of enzyme interactions with certain medications. If you take any prescription drugs—especially those processed by your liver—check them against this product's ingredients first.

For each ingredient in Antarctic Krill Oil with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Astaxanthin
Cytochrome P450 2B6 (Cyp2B6) Substrates
Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2B6.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces cytochrome CYP2B6 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Superba Boost Krill Oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, krill oil may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Taking high doses of omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil can modestly decrease platelet aggregation. Since krill oil also contains these fatty acids, taking high doses of krill oil might also inhibit platelet aggregation. Theoretically, taking high doses of krill oil with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might increase the risk of bleeding. However, the omega-3 content of krill oil is much lower than that of fish oil.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking krill oil with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research in animals and humans shows that krill oil might lower blood glucose levels. However, a small study shows that taking krill oil does not reduce blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, most of whom were taking antidiabetes drugs.
Choline
Atropine
Theoretically, choline might decrease the effects of atropine in the brain.
Animal research shows that administering choline one hour before administering atropine can attenuate atropine-induced decreases in brain levels of acetylcholine. Theoretically, concomitant use of choline and atropine may decrease the effects of atropine.
