Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: a blend of Arjuna bark extract and Arjuna bark powder. Arjuna is a traditional Ayurvedic herb used to support heart and circulatory function.

The capsule also holds two inactive ingredients—silicon dioxide and an HPMC capsule shell—which help hold the product together but aren't active components.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Terminalia product and its label doesn't state a use — see Terminalia's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold doesn't establish that Arjuna is effective for the conditions it's often promoted for. Studies looking at obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and angina all show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work—just that the data we have isn't strong enough to say either way.

How safe is it?

Some data gaps
Safety Information · database check
Some gaps

Safety data exists for these ingredients, but with some important gaps.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 0 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Arjuna is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but we don't have solid long-term safety data, and quality varies between products. The safety information during pregnancy and breastfeeding is insufficient—there's not enough data to know whether it's safe.

Given that gap, the safety data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding and want to consider this supplement.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Terminalia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 934 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking Arjuna, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any medications processed through your liver's CYP2D6, CYP2C9, or CYP3A4 pathways—that covers hundreds of drugs. Also double-check if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs, diabetes medications, chlorzoxazone (a muscle relaxer), or omeprazole (a reflux medication).

The interaction data we hold shows all of these are Moderate severity.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.

Arjuna may appeal to people interested in traditional herbal heart support, but it's one to clear with your own doctor or pharmacist first—especially if you take prescription medications. Because it affects how your liver processes a large number of common drugs and raises bleeding risk when combined with blood thinners, it needs a careful medication check before you start.

Have your prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs on hand when you talk it over with your healthcare provider.

Arjuna by Herbal Hills: Common Questions

Does Arjuna by Herbal Hills interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Arjuna has a known interaction with 933 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Arjuna contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is Arjuna safe to take while I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advises against it. There isn't enough information to know whether it's safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you in these situations.
What is Arjuna used for?
Arjuna is a traditional Ayurvedic herb used to support heart and circulatory health. However, we don't hold evidence strong enough to confirm whether it works for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, angina, or obesity.
Can I take Arjuna long-term?
We don't have solid long-term safety data. Studies have looked at short-term use, and quality varies between products, so long-term safety isn't well established. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it for an extended period.
Why does Arjuna interact with so many medications?
Arjuna inhibits three major liver enzymes (CYP2D6, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4) that break down hundreds of common drugs. When those enzymes are slowed, drug levels can build up and cause stronger effects or side effects. That's why the interaction count is large.
Does this product have any fillers?
It contains silicon dioxide and an HPMC capsule shell, which are inactive ingredients that help form and hold the capsule together.
