HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Arjuna by Herbal Hills
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: a blend of Arjuna bark extract and Arjuna bark powder. Arjuna is a traditional Ayurvedic herb used to support heart and circulatory function.
The capsule also holds two inactive ingredients—silicon dioxide and an HPMC capsule shell—which help hold the product together but aren't active components.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that Arjuna is effective for the conditions it's often promoted for. Studies looking at obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and angina all show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work—just that the data we have isn't strong enough to say either way.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Arjuna is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but we don't have solid long-term safety data, and quality varies between products. The safety information during pregnancy and breastfeeding is insufficient—there's not enough data to know whether it's safe.
Given that gap, the safety data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding and want to consider this supplement.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Arjuna, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any medications processed through your liver's CYP2D6, CYP2C9, or CYP3A4 pathways—that covers hundreds of drugs. Also double-check if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs, diabetes medications, chlorzoxazone (a muscle relaxer), or omeprazole (a reflux medication).
The interaction data we hold shows all of these are Moderate severity.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
Arjuna may appeal to people interested in traditional herbal heart support, but it's one to clear with your own doctor or pharmacist first—especially if you take prescription medications. Because it affects how your liver processes a large number of common drugs and raises bleeding risk when combined with blood thinners, it needs a careful medication check before you start.
Have your prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs on hand when you talk it over with your healthcare provider.

Arjuna by Herbal Hills Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Arjuna by Herbal Hills contains one active ingredient—Arjuna bark extract and powder—that interacts with a substantial number of medications.
The most serious concern is its effect on how your liver breaks down many common drugs. Arjuna inhibits three major detoxification pathways (CYP2D6, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4 substrates), which means it can raise the blood levels and strength of drugs processed through these routes—potentially causing side effects or overdose.
Altogether, these interactions span 934 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Arjuna also raises bleeding risk if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (medications that prevent clots), because the herb itself thins blood slightly in lab studies. It may affect blood sugar control if you're on diabetes medication, and it can increase levels of two specific drugs: the muscle relaxer chlorzoxazone and the reflux medication omeprazole.
Because so many common medications depend on those liver pathways, you'll want to check your exact prescriptions against the tool below before starting this product.

Arjuna bark extract & Arjuna bark powder Blend
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of Terminalia arjuna with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may increase the risk of bleeding in some patients.
In vitro, Terminalia arjuna bark extract inhibits platelet aggregation, decreases platelet activation, and shows antithrombotic properties.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of Terminalia bellirica or Terminalia chebula with antidiabetes drugs could affect blood sugar control and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal and in vitro research shows that Terminalia bellirica and Terminalia chebula fruit and seed extract have hypoglycemic effects.
Chlorzoxazone (Parafon Forte, Paraflex)
Theoretically, use of Terminalia chebula may increase the risk of adverse effects from chlorzoxazone.
Animal research shows that enteral administration of Terminalia chebula for 15 days prior to administration of chlorzoxazone increases blood levels of chlorzoxazone and decreases chlorzoxazone clearance. It is speculated that Terminalia chebula reduces the metabolism of chlorzoxazone by inhibiting cytochrome P450 2E1.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, use of Terminalia arjuna may increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Terminalia arjuna extract inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes and reduces CYP2C9 substrate metabolism.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, use of Terminalia arjuna may increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Terminalia arjuna extract inhibits CYP2D6 enzymes and reduces CYP2D6 substrate metabolism.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, use of Terminalia arjuna may increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Terminalia arjuna extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes and reduces CYP3A4 substrate metabolism.
Omeprazole (Prilosec)
Theoretically, use of Terminalia chebula may increase the risk of adverse effects from omeprazole.
Animal research shows that enteral administration of Terminalia chebula for 15 days prior to administration of omeprazole increases blood levels of omeprazole and decreases omeprazole clearance. It is speculated that Terminalia chebula reduces the metabolism of omeprazole by inhibiting cytochrome P450 2C19.
