HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Asparagus Root 450 mg by TerraVita Premium Collection
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: 450 mg of asparagus root per capsule. The capsule itself is made from gelatin and water, which are inactive ingredients that hold the powder together.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for asparagus root's effectiveness is not established in our data. Claims about its use for acne, cancer, constipation, high blood pressure, intestinal parasites, and kidney stones all fall into the category of insufficient reliable evidence to make a rating.
If you're considering this supplement for a specific health goal, it's worth asking your pharmacist or doctor what the current research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Asparagus as a food is generally well tolerated, but this product is a concentrated medicinal extract — and concentrated extracts haven't been studied as thoroughly. Allergic reactions are possible, especially if you're sensitive to other plants in the lily family (onions, garlic, leeks, chives); symptoms can range from itchy eyes and a runny nose to coughing, hives, difficulty swallowing, trouble breathing, or in rare cases, anaphylaxis.
One clinical trial of a combination product containing asparagus root and parsley reported constipation, belly bloating and pain, nausea, dry mouth, and gallbladder complaints in up to half the participants — though it's unclear whether asparagus root alone was responsible. That same trial noted gout in about 2% of patients, again with unclear attribution.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist before using this product if you take diuretics (water pills) or lithium. Both carry Moderate interaction concerns because asparagus root can increase urine output, which may amplify electrolyte loss with diuretics or raise lithium levels in your blood.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're interested in asparagus root for general wellness, know that the evidence for most claimed benefits isn't solid yet. More importantly, if you take a diuretic or lithium, check with your pharmacist before adding this — the diuretic effect could matter for your specific situation.
Anyone with a lily-family food allergy should steer clear.

Asparagus Root 450 mg by TerraVita Premium Collection Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TerraVita Premium Collection Asparagus Root has documented interactions with two medication types.
The most serious concern is with diuretic drugs (water pills), which carry a Moderate severity rating — asparagus root's own diuretic effect may amplify fluid loss and electrolyte imbalance when combined with these medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Lithium, a mood-stabilizing medication, also carries a Moderate interaction. Because asparagus root can increase urine output, it may reduce how quickly your body clears lithium from your system, potentially raising lithium levels and requiring a dose adjustment.
Both of these interactions come from animal studies showing asparagus root's diuretic activity; they haven't been confirmed in humans yet. Still, if you take diuretics or lithium, run your exact medication through the checker below before starting this supplement.
Altogether, these interactions span 76 individual medications.
