Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: astragalus membranaceus root extract, 1300 mg per capsule. Astragalus is a traditional plant used in herbal medicine, and this extract concentrates its active compounds.
The capsule itself is made from hypromellose, a plant-based ingredient that holds the extract together.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we have for astragalus in our data is limited. For conditions like hay fever, amenorrhea (missing periods), aplastic anemia, angina, asthma, and beta-thalassemia, the research is insufficient to rate it as effective.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means reliable human studies are lacking for these uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Astragalus is generally well tolerated in the short term for healthy adults, but human safety data is sparse. Some people taking astragalus orally have reported dizziness or angina-like chest pain in clinical studies, though it's unclear whether astragalus actually caused these or they happened by chance.
Intravenous astragalus (given by IV, not how you'd take this supplement) has been linked to temporary dizziness, rash, and itching. The safety data advises against using astragalus during pregnancy or while breastfeeding because there isn't enough reliable information to know it's safe.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your own doctor or pharmacist if you take immunosuppressants (like drugs after an organ transplant), lithium, cyclophosphamide, or any diabetes medication. Astragalus could interfere with how these drugs work or raise your risk of side effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Astragalus may be worth considering if you're interested in immune support and have no contraindications, but the evidence for specific conditions is weak. If you take immunosuppressants, lithium, diabetes medications, or cyclophosphamide, you need to clear this with your own doctor or pharmacist first — the interaction risks are real.

Astragalus Extract 1300 mg Veg Capsules by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Astragalus Extract 1300 mg by BulkSupplements.com interacts with several medication types through its astragalus root extract.
The most serious concerns are with immunosuppressants and lithium, both at Moderate severity. Astragalus stimulates immune function, which could theoretically reduce the effectiveness of immunosuppressive drugs (used after transplants or for autoimmune conditions).
It may also increase lithium levels and side effects because it has diuretic properties that could reduce how your kidneys clear lithium.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
You should also be cautious with cyclophosphamide (a chemotherapy drug), since animal research is conflicting on whether astragalus might interfere with its effects. Additionally, astragalus may lower blood sugar, so combining it with diabetes medications could theoretically raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Altogether, these interactions span 208 individual medications. Before you start this product, run your exact medications through the checker on this page — especially if you take any immune-suppressing drug, lithium, cyclophosphamide, or a diabetes medication.
