Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 (as methylcobalamin, the methyl form). B12 is an essential nutrient your body needs for nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis.

The liquid is rounded out with purified water and vegetable glycerine as inactive ingredients.

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: energy boost and brain health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Fatigue, Cognitive function, Age-related cognitive decline, Dementia, Alzheimer disease, Vitamin B12 deficiency — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Vitamin B12 is rated "Effective" for Vitamin B12 deficiency (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Vitamin B12 is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer disease.
  • Also on file: Vitamin B12 is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, Cognitive function, Dementia, Fatigue.

Vitamin B12 is effective for treating Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare genetic disorder affecting B12 absorption) and vitamin B12 deficiency itself. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.

For canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), the evidence is possibly effective—meaning there's some support but it's not yet definitive.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

B12 is generally very well tolerated, and your body removes excess through your urine, so there's no established upper limit. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, B12 is actually needed and is considered safe at normal recommended amounts—follow your provider's guidance on dosing.

The most common side effect from injections is a reaction at the injection site; oral forms rarely cause allergic reactions like rash or itching, though they're possible (especially in people with a cobalt allergy). A very rare serious effect linked to B12 correcting severe anemia is a dangerous drop in potassium (hypokalemia), but this is extremely uncommon.

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Vitamin B12.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 20 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take metformin (Glucophage) for diabetes, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this supplement—the medication can lower your B12 levels, and you may need monitoring or a dose adjustment. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we checked.

Methyl B-12 by NB Pure Pure Vegan: Common Questions

Does Methyl B-12 by NB Pure Pure Vegan interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Methyl B-12 has a known interaction with 20 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Methyl B-12 contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is this B12 form better than others?
This product uses methylcobalamin, the methyl form of B12. The facts we hold don't compare its effectiveness to other B12 forms, so we can't say one is definitively better than another—that's a good question for your pharmacist.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Yes. B12 is actually needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding and is considered safe at recommended amounts. Always confirm the right dose for you with your doctor or pharmacist.
What does B12 actually do in my body?
B12 is essential for nerve function, making red blood cells, and building DNA. Without enough of it, you can feel tired, weak, or have numbness or tingling in your hands and feet.
Are there any side effects?
B12 is very well tolerated. Allergic reactions like rash or itching are rare, and they're more likely in people with a cobalt allergy. A very rare serious effect is a dangerous drop in potassium when B12 corrects severe anemia, but this almost never happens.
I take metformin. Is this safe for me?
Metformin can lower your B12 levels by interfering with absorption in your gut. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist—you may benefit from this supplement, but they may want to monitor your levels or adjust your dose.
What if I take too much?
Your body removes excess B12 through urine, so there's no established upper limit. You won't store too much or overdose on it.
