Metformin, a common medication used to manage type 2 diabetes, has been associated with lower vitamin B12 levels in some individuals. Prolonged use of metformin can interfere with the absorption of B12 in the digestive system, potentially leading to a deficiency in this essential vitamin.

Here the interaction works the other way around from what people usually expect. It is not that your B12 changes how Glucovance works. Instead, the metformin part of this combo pill can slowly lower your body's vitamin B12 over time by making it harder to absorb in the gut. This tends to show up after months or years of use, not overnight. The glyburide piece is not involved in this one.

Low B12 can quietly cause tiredness, a pale look, or tingling and numbness in the hands and feet, which can feel a lot like diabetic nerve issues. The good news is this is easy to check with a simple blood test, and a B12 supplement is a common, safe fix. Ask your pharmacist or doctor whether your B12 should be monitored.
