What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Bergamot against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Bergamot by Hawaii Pharm
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic bergamot extract. Bergamot is a citrus fruit used in traditional and modern herbal practice, and this liquid form also includes vegetable palm glycerin, pharmaceutical-grade alcohol, and artesian Hawaiian purified water as inactive ingredients that help deliver and preserve the extract.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Research suggests bergamot extract is possibly effective for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia). We hold insufficient evidence to rate it for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or autism spectrum disorder.
For mental alertness, the available data suggests it's possibly ineffective. If you're considering this product for cholesterol or liver health, talk with your doctor about how it fits into your treatment plan.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The oral extract appears generally well tolerated when used short-term, though one person in a clinical trial reported heartburn. The essential oil form can be toxic if swallowed and can cause sun-related skin reactions, especially on fair skin — so stick with this liquid extract form if you use it at all.
Bergamot is rated possibly unsafe during pregnancy, so the safety data advises against it if you're pregnant. Safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so avoiding it is the safer choice if you're nursing.
If you're in either situation, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your exact medications before starting, especially if you take antidiabetes drugs (for blood sugar control) or photosensitizing drugs (medications that increase sun sensitivity). Altogether, these interactions span 408 individual medications.
Your pharmacist can help you verify whether any of yours are on that list.
The bottom line

Bergamot by Hawaii Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Hawaii Pharm Bergamot extract interacts with two important drug categories, and you'll want to check your medications against our tool before starting.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The first concern is photosensitizing drugs — medications that make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, like certain antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. Bergamot contains bergapten, a compound with photosensitizing effects.
If you're using a topical form of this product alongside those drugs, your risk of sun-related skin reactions could go up. This is a Moderate interaction.
The second is antidiabetes drugs (medications for blood sugar control). Animal research suggests bergamot juice can lower blood sugar on its own.
Taking it with your diabetes medication might push your blood sugar too low (hypoglycemia), which is also Moderate severity.
Bergamot extract itself is the only active ingredient here, and it accounts for all documented interactions. Run your exact medications through the checker on this page to be sure.
