What’s inside
Full disclosure
This softgel contains 2 active ingredients: lutein (from FloraGLO, a trademark ingredient source) and zeaxanthin, both naturally occurring carotenoids that concentrate in the eye. The remaining content is safflower oil, yellow beeswax, sunflower lecithin, gelatin, glycerin, and purified water — inactive ingredients that help deliver and form the softgel.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for lutein is strongest for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts, where it's rated possibly effective. For other eye conditions — retinitis pigmentosa, retinopathy of prematurity, and necrotizing enterocolitis — the evidence suggests it doesn't work.
Zeaxanthin is also rated possibly effective for AMD but has insufficient evidence for cognitive decline, Alzheimer disease, asthma, breast cancer, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lutein at doses up to 20 mg daily is generally well tolerated with no reported adverse effects in trials. Both ingredients are rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation, though the safety data on concentrated supplement doses — rather than food sources — in pregnancy and while breastfeeding isn't as well established, so it's worth discussing with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Lutein naturally appears in breast milk, but higher supplement doses haven't been well studied.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your antidiabetes medications — especially if you're already managing tight blood sugar control. Zeaxanthin's moderate interaction with these drugs could increase the risk of low blood sugar.
A quick call to your pharmacist can confirm whether your specific medications need adjustment or monitoring.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is worth considering if you're concerned about age-related macular degeneration or cataracts and want to add a lutein and zeaxanthin supplement. If you take diabetes medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist first — zeaxanthin may theoretically lower blood sugar further.
A quick conversation with your pharmacist about your specific medications takes the guesswork out.

Lutein with FloraGLO 20 mg by Doctor's Best Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Doctor's Best Lutein with FloraGLO 20 mg interacts with antidiabetes drugs through its zeaxanthin content.
Zeaxanthin may theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined with diabetes medications — a moderate interaction. Animal studies show zeaxanthin has blood sugar–lowering effects, though population research hasn't found that higher dietary lutein and zeaxanthin intake reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the first place.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking zeaxanthin with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In an animal diabetic model, zeaxanthin has hypoglycemic effects. However, population research has found that increasing intake of dietary zeaxanthin plus lutein does not decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
