Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: biotin, a B vitamin your body uses to break down food and support hair, skin, and nail health. The capsule itself is made from gelatin, soybean oil, vegetable glycerin, and a couple of other inert fillers to hold it together.

Does it work?

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: strengthen hair, skin, nails and cellular energy.
  • We looked for evidence on: Biotin deficiency, Brittle nails, Alopecia areata, Seborrheic dermatitis, hair loss, nail weakness — and 1 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Biotin is rated "Likely Effective" for Biotin deficiency (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Biotin is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Seborrheic dermatitis.
  • Also on file: Biotin is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Alopecia areata, Brittle nails.

Biotin is likely effective for treating biotin deficiency—a real but uncommon condition. For other uses like hair loss (alopecia areata), seborrheic dermatitis (a scaly skin condition), or multiple sclerosis, the evidence either isn't there or points the other way.

If you're taking this for general wellness or hair and nail support without a documented deficiency, the science doesn't back that up yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at fairly high doses, because your body gets rid of excess in urine. At very high doses (like 300 mg a day), a small number of people have reported mild diarrhea.

There's one isolated case report of a woman who developed inflammation in the lining around her heart and lungs while taking biotin and another B vitamin together, but no pattern of similar cases has emerged since. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, normal dietary and supplement amounts are considered likely safe; however, check with your doctor before taking high-dose biotin supplements.
