Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 2 active ingredients: biotin and keratin. Biotin is a B vitamin that supports the health of hair, skin, and nails, and it's used to treat biotin deficiency.
Keratin is a structural protein that's also marketed for hair and skin support, though we don't hold interaction data for it. The product also includes inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose — which are fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Biotin is likely effective for treating biotin deficiency. For other uses, the evidence is less clear: it's rated possibly ineffective for seborrheic dermatitis and multiple sclerosis, and there's insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for alopecia areata (hair loss in patches).
We don't hold effectiveness data for keratin in our system.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at fairly high doses, because your body removes excess in the urine. High-dose biotin has rarely been linked to mild diarrhea — two patients taking 300 mg daily reported transient mild diarrhea.
One case report described a possible reaction to high-dose biotin combined with other supplements, but no similar cases have been reported since, and it's unclear whether biotin was the cause. Amounts from food and prenatal vitamins are appropriate, but check with your doctor before taking high-dose biotin supplements.
Biotin is likely safe in pregnancy and lactation.
