HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Chewable Kids Digest Fruit Punch Flavor by Enzymedica
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product has 12 active digestive enzymes. Protease breaks down proteins; lipase handles fats; lactase breaks down milk sugar (lactose).
The others — amylase, cellulase, xylanase, maltase, glucoamylase, invertase, pectinase, alpha galactosidase, and L-leucine — support breakdown of different carbohydrates and plant fiber. The tablet also contains inactive ingredients like tapioca dextrose, inulin, stevia, citric acid, beet juice, and guar gum that give it flavor and texture.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for these enzymes is mixed. Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance — that one's well-studied.
For the others in this product — protease, lipase, and the remaining carbohydrate-digesting enzymes — the evidence we hold shows insufficient reliable data to rate how well they work for digestive complaints like indigestion (dyspepsia) or inflammatory bowel disease. That doesn't mean they don't work; it means the research isn't solid enough yet for us to say.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Protease, lipase, and lactase are generally well tolerated in kids. Rarely, some people have had allergic reactions to proteolytic enzymes — allergic rhinitis or asthma have been reported with occupational airborne exposure, and contact dermatitis and allergic rhinitis with lactase exposure.
In the product form, serious side effects are uncommon, but digestive upset can happen. During pregnancy, protease safety hasn't been established and should be avoided unless prescribed.
Lipase has little safety data in pregnancy — use only if your doctor advises it. Lactase is likely safe in pregnancy.
For breastfeeding, there's minimal data on protease and lipase, so check with your doctor first; lactase acts only in the gut, but still ask your pharmacist or doctor before regular use.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check. Still, we couldn't verify nine of the twelve enzymes, so if your child takes any prescription medication, check their exact drugs on the interaction tool below before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a multi-enzyme digestive supplement for kids. It's generally well tolerated, and lactase in it is proven to help with milk sugar digestion.
If your child has serious digestive conditions or is pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor first — some of these enzymes don't have solid safety data in those situations. And let your pharmacist know if your child takes any medications.
