Chlorodex Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by DNA Dynamic Nutritional Associates
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Chlorodex against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Chlorodex is a liquid supplement with two active ingredients: chlorophyllin (a semi-synthetic derivative of the green pigment in plants) and copper sodium chlorophyll. No inactive fillers or binders are listed.
Chlorophyllin has traditionally been used for odor control and general wellness, while copper is an essential mineral your body needs for various functions including nerve and connective-tissue health.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Chlorophyllin's evidence is mixed. It's rated possibly ineffective for urinary odor—the main reason people historically use it—and there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate it for acne, cancer, constipation, flatulence, or low white blood cell count (leukopenia).
Copper is rated likely effective for treating actual copper deficiency, but possibly ineffective for Alzheimer's disease. For acne, chemotherapy-related anemia, and brain tumors, the evidence is insufficient to rate.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chlorophyllin is generally well tolerated in the short term, but we don't have robust long-term safety data. It's not recommended in pregnancy because we don't have enough reliable safety information, and the same goes for breastfeeding.
Orally, chlorophyll can cause sun sensitivity (photosensitization) and in case reports has been linked to pseudoporphyria—a condition that causes blisters, especially on hands, after sun exposure or trauma. Copper is safe in food and standard supplement amounts, but excess copper is toxic.
It's needed during pregnancy, so stay within recommended doses and don't use high-dose supplements without medical guidance. The same caution applies while breastfeeding.
A small number of people have reported contact dermatitis from copper, and very rarely, topical copper sulfate caused superficial burns in young children.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take Chlorodex, check if you're on photosensitizing drugs (medications that increase sun sensitivity)—chlorophyllin may intensify that effect. If you take penicillamine (an older chelation or rheumatoid arthritis medication), separate this supplement by at least 2 hours to avoid blocking its absorption.
Oral contraceptive users should also mention this product, since it may raise copper levels. Use the search tool below with your full medication list.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Chlorodex may interest people looking for general chlorophyll supplementation, but the evidence for its traditional uses (like odor control) is weak. If you take photosensitizing drugs, penicillamine, or oral contraceptives, check with us first.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Chlorodex by DNA Dynamic Nutritional Associates contains two active ingredients, each with documented interactions.
The most serious concern is chlorophyllin's potential additive effect with photosensitizing drugs (drugs that make your skin more sensitive to sun damage). This is a Moderate-severity interaction; if you take medications in that class, you'll need to be extra cautious about sun exposure while using this product.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Copper sodium chlorophyll carries two separate Moderate and Minor interactions. It may decrease how well penicillamine (an older chelation and rheumatoid arthritis drug) is absorbed—if you take it, space the two by at least 2 hours.
Additionally, oral contraceptive drugs may raise your copper levels, which could theoretically increase copper-related side effects, though this is listed as Minor severity.
Always run your exact medications through the search tool on this page before you start, since these interactions span 365 individual medications.

Chlorophyllin
Photosensitizing Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyllin with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. Orally, chlorophyll has also been associated with the development of pseudoporphyria in multiple case reports.
Copper Sodium Chlorophyll
Penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen)
Theoretically, taking copper with penicillamine might decrease the absorption of penicillamine; separate dosing by at least 2 hours.
Copper chelates penicillamine, which decreases its absorption and may reduce its clinical effects.
Contraceptive Drugs
Theoretically, taking copper with contraceptive drugs might increase the levels and toxic effects of copper.
A meta-analysis of clinical studies suggests that chronic use of oral contraceptives increases serum copper levels by a mean of 57 mcg/dL. In most people, this resulted in levels above the normal reference range for copper.
