Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: choline, a nutrient your body uses for cell function and brain health. Each capsule delivers 800 mg.

The inactive ingredients are hypromellose, magnesium stearate, cellulose gel, and silicon dioxide — these are binders and capsule materials that help deliver the active ingredient.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Choline's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: support memory, mood and muscle health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Cognitive function, Age-related cognitive decline, Dementia, Alzheimer disease, Depression, Infant development — and 4 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Choline is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Choline is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer disease, Cognitive function, Dementia, and more.

The evidence for choline on most conditions is limited. For athletic performance, the data suggests it's likely ineffective.

For bronchitis, age-related memory loss, liver problems from total parenteral nutrition, hay fever, and Alzheimer's disease, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or not.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Choline at the dose in this product (800 mg) is well tolerated by most people. However, doses above the daily upper limit of 3.5 grams can cause side effects — fishy body odor is the most common, and at very high doses (9 grams or more daily), people have reported nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and sweating.

The safety data shows that choline is important during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but you should use it only at the dose your doctor recommends rather than choosing your own supplement amount.

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Choline.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • For scale: 16 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take atropine, double-check with your pharmacist before starting choline — it may reduce atropine's effects in the brain (Minor severity). No other interactions are documented for choline in our data.

Atropine

Theoretically, choline might decrease the effects of atropine in the brain.
Animal research shows that administering choline one hour before administering atropine can attenuate atropine-induced decreases in brain levels of acetylcholine. Theoretically, concomitant use of choline and atropine may decrease the effects of atropine.

Choline 800 mg by Nature Made: Common Questions

Does Choline 800 mg by Nature Made interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Choline 800 mg has a known interaction with 16 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Choline 800 mg contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will choline help my memory or prevent Alzheimer's?
The evidence isn't established yet. We don't have enough reliable data to say whether choline helps with age-related memory loss or Alzheimer's disease. Talk with your doctor about whether this supplement makes sense for you.
What are the side effects at this dose?
At 800 mg daily, choline is generally well tolerated. Side effects mainly happen at doses above 3.5 grams per day — the most common is a fishy body odor. At very high doses (9 grams or more daily), some people report nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and sweating.
Is it safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data rates choline as likely safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, your choline needs are higher during these times, so use only the dose your doctor or midwife advises rather than picking a supplement amount on your own.
Can I take this if I use atropine?
Choline may theoretically reduce how well atropine works in your brain. If you take atropine (for eye drops, heart conditions, or other uses), check with your pharmacist before starting this supplement.
Does this product have fillers?
Yes. The capsule contains hypromellose, magnesium stearate, cellulose gel, and silicon dioxide — these are inactive ingredients that help deliver the choline.
