Cognitive Health Support Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Cognitive Health Support against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains two active ingredients. Choline is a nutrient that plays a role in brain function and cell structure.
Zembrin Sceletium tortuosum extract is a plant-based ingredient derived from a succulent used traditionally in South Africa. The capsule also contains several inactive ingredients—gelatin, cellulose, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, and titanium dioxide—which serve as fillers and binders to hold the supplement together.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence supporting either ingredient for cognitive health isn't established in the data we hold. Choline has been rated insufficient evidence for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease, and possibly ineffective for athletic performance.
Sceletium has insufficient evidence for depression, anxiety, and stress—the conditions most people might hope it would support. Neither ingredient has strong backing for the "cognitive health" claim on this product's label.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Choline is generally well tolerated in typical supplement doses, though it's important to know that very high doses (above 3.5 grams daily) can cause fishy body odor, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and sweating. Choline is rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation, though your doctor should guide your use.
Sceletium has less safety data. Short-term studies suggest it's generally tolerable, but long-term safety hasn't been established.
The adverse effects reported in trials include anxiety, headache, insomnia, irritability, and nausea. Sceletium is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding due to insufficient safety information.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you use CNS depressants—sedatives, sleep aids, anti-anxiety medications, or opioid pain relievers—since sceletium may add to their sedative effects (moderate interaction). Also double-check if you take atropine or medications containing it, as choline may reduce its effectiveness (minor interaction).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may appeal to someone looking for general cognitive support, but the evidence backing either ingredient is not strong. The bigger concern is the moderate interaction with CNS depressants (sleep aids, sedatives, anti-anxiety drugs) and the minor interaction with atropine.
If you take any prescription medication, especially for sleep or anxiety, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this supplement.

Cognitive Health Support by GNC Preventive Nutrition Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
GNC Preventive Nutrition's Cognitive Health Support contains two active ingredients, and together they interact with a significant number of medications.
Choline has a minor interaction with atropine (a medication sometimes used for certain eye conditions and other purposes), potentially reducing atropine's effects in the brain. Zembrin Sceletium tortuosum extract, the second active ingredient, has a documented moderate interaction with CNS depressants—drugs that slow brain and nervous system activity, such as sedatives, sleep aids, and some anti-anxiety medications—and may add to their sedative effects.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Altogether, these interactions span 257 individual medications. Most of these fall into the CNS depressant category, which is the more serious concern given the moderate severity rating.
If you take any prescription medication—especially anything for sleep, anxiety, or pain control—run it through the checker below before you start this supplement.

Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of sceletium and CNS depressants might result in additive sedative effects.
Some evidence suggests that sceletium has sedative properties.
Choline
Atropine
Theoretically, choline might decrease the effects of atropine in the brain.
Animal research shows that administering choline one hour before administering atropine can attenuate atropine-induced decreases in brain levels of acetylcholine. Theoretically, concomitant use of choline and atropine may decrease the effects of atropine.
