Cordyceps Extract Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Cordyceps Extract against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Cordyceps Extract by Host Defense Mushrooms
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: fresh Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris) mycelium extract. Cordyceps is a fungus traditionally used to support energy and stamina.
The liquid also includes water, alcohol, and myceliated brown rice as inactive ingredients — these are carriers and processing aids, not therapeutic ingredients.
Does it work?
No specific claim
The evidence on cordyceps is patchy. For athletic performance, the data suggests it's possibly ineffective — meaning the research doesn't support the claim that it boosts sports endurance or strength.
For sexual dysfunction, arrhythmia, asthma, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to rate whether cordyceps works. That doesn't mean it's ineffective for those uses; it means the studies we have aren't strong enough yet to say either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Cordyceps is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth for up to a year, though evidence is limited and product quality varies quite a bit. The most common side effects are mild — abdominal discomfort, constipation, and diarrhea — and they're uncommon.
Taking cordyceps with food may help reduce these. There's one case report of liver inflammation (cholestasis) in a 64-year-old man, but it's unclear whether cordyceps or a contaminant caused it; he recovered after stopping the supplement.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data, so it's best to avoid cordyceps. If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning either, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this cordyceps product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, clopidogrel, aspirin) — there's a Moderate risk that cordyceps could increase bleeding. Also double-check if you take immunosuppressants like cyclosporine, as cordyceps may interfere with how well they work.
If you're using testosterone therapy, that's also worth confirming, though the interaction is Minor in severity.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula marketed for general wellness rather than one specific gradeable purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Cordyceps Extract is used by some for athletic stamina and energy, but the evidence doesn't support that claim. If you take blood thinners, immunosuppressants, or testosterone therapy, you should check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting cordyceps — the interaction risk is real enough to warrant a conversation.
For most people without those medications, cordyceps is generally well tolerated short-term, though you should know the evidence on effectiveness is limited and quality can vary.

Cordyceps Extract by Host Defense Mushrooms Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Cordyceps Extract by Host Defense Mushrooms does interact with certain medications, and the most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, clopidogrel, or aspirin).
Animal and lab research suggests cordyceps may inhibit how platelets clump together and increase bleeding risk — though this hasn't been seen in human patients yet, it's still a Moderate-severity interaction to watch for.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Cordyceps may also interfere with immunosuppressants, the drugs given after transplant or for autoimmune disease. Research hints that cordyceps stimulates your immune system and might reduce how well these medications work — specifically, it could lower the dose of cyclosporine your body needs to stay in balance.
That's also a Moderate-severity concern. Additionally, cordyceps may have additive effects if you're taking testosterone therapy, though the clinical significance of that interaction remains unclear and is Minor in severity.
Altogether, these interactions span 249 individual medications. We could not check for interactions with other ingredients in this product because they are inactive.
Before you start cordyceps, run your exact medications — especially blood thinners, immunosuppressants, and testosterone — through the interaction checker on this page.

fresh Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris) mycelium extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, cordyceps may increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that cordyceps extract inhibits platelet aggregation and function. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.
Testosterone
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps and testosterone might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that cordyceps can increase testosterone levels. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear.
