Digest Spectrum contains 13 active digestive enzymes designed to break down different components of food. Protease breaks down proteins, lipase handles fats, lactase breaks down milk sugar, and the others — amylase, cellulase, pectinase, invertase, glucoamylase, alpha-galactosidase, xylanase, maltase, hemicellulase, and dipeptidyl peptidase-IV — work on starches, fiber, and carbohydrates.
The capsule itself is cellulose, which is also inactive.

Protease, lipase, and lactase are generally well tolerated in adults. Protease can occasionally trigger digestive upset or allergic reactions, and rarely, occupational exposure to airborne protease has caused allergic rhinitis or asthma — though that's not typical with oral supplements.
Lactase in rare cases has caused contact dermatitis or allergic rhinitis in workers exposed to powder, but oral use is not the same exposure. People with serious digestive conditions should use lipase only under medical guidance.
