What’s inside
Full disclosure
This softgel contains 4 active ingredients: astaxanthin (a red pigment from algae), docosahexaenoic acid ethyl ester (a form of the omega-3 fat DHA), gamma-linolenic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid), and omega-3 fatty acids. The inactive ingredients include gelatin, glycerin, olive oil, lemon oil, mixed tocopherols, citric acid, ascorbyl palmitate, and rosemary extract.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for astaxanthin is limited—we don't have reliable data on whether it helps with age-related cognitive decline, macular degeneration, aging skin, Alzheimer's disease, athletic performance, or carpal tunnel syndrome. Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA) show possibly effective evidence for lowering cholesterol levels and preventing preterm labor, but possibly ineffective evidence for cognitive function and ADHD.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Astaxanthin is generally well tolerated, though long-term safety data are sparse. The most common side effects are abdominal pain, diarrhea, and red-colored stools.
Higher doses have caused severe stomach pain in a small number of people. Omega-3 fatty acids at typical doses are generally well tolerated; the most common side effects are belching, fishy aftertaste, loose stools, and nausea.
Rare case reports link high doses to increased bleeding risk. Astaxanthin: there isn't enough safety data to take it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding—talk with your doctor before use.
Omega-3 fatty acids (DHA): the safety data advises using it during pregnancy only under your doctor's guidance and choosing a purified, low-mercury source. DHA passes into breast milk and is generally considered acceptable, but check with your doctor on dose and source.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any of these: drugs metabolized by your liver's CYP3A4 or CYP2B6 enzymes (a very broad category—your pharmacist can tell you if yours are among them), blood thinners or antiplatelet medications, blood pressure drugs, or diabetes medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Ultra Omeganol is built around omega-3 fatty acids and astaxanthin, neither of which has strong evidence for the wellness claims often made about them. The bigger concern is that this product can interact with a large number of medications—especially blood thinners, blood pressure drugs, diabetes medications, and drugs your liver metabolizes.
If you take any prescription medication, check it against the tool on this page before you start, and talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist.

Dr. Sears' Private Label Primal Force Ultra Omeganol by Primal Force Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Primal Force Ultra Omeganol can interact with medications through its astaxanthin and omega-3 fatty acids content.
The most serious concern is a moderate-severity interaction: astaxanthin may theoretically decrease levels of drugs metabolized by your liver's CYP3A4 enzyme system, which includes a broad range of medications. This effect has been observed in lab studies but not yet confirmed in people.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Astaxanthin also theoretically may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by the CYP2B6 enzyme (Moderate severity). The omega-3 fatty acids in this product interact with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs—theoretically raising bleeding risk—and with blood pressure medications, which might lower your pressure further.
Additionally, omega-3s may reduce how well diabetes medications work by raising fasting blood sugar.
We could not check two of the four ingredients: docosahexaenoic acid ethyl ester and gamma-linolenic acid. Altogether, these interactions span 977 individual medications.
To see whether any of your current prescriptions are affected, use the interaction checker below with your exact medication names.

For each ingredient in Dr. Sears' Private Label Primal Force Ultra Omeganol with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Astaxanthin
Cytochrome P450 2B6 (Cyp2B6) Substrates
Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2B6.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces cytochrome CYP2B6 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, astaxanthin may decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that astaxanthin induces CYP3A4 enzyme activity in human hepatocytes. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, DHA may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Although some clinical evidence suggests that DHA might reduce collagen-stimulated platelet aggregation and thromboxane release, most clinical evidence suggests that DHA alone does not affect blood clotting. However, theoretically, when given in combination with EPA as fish oil, concomitant use with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs (including aspirin) might increase risk of bleeding.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking DHA with antidiabetes drugs might reduce the effects of these medications.
In people with type 2 diabetes, including those taking oral hypoglycemic medications, DHA seems to increase fasting blood glucose levels.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking DHA with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Fish oils containing DHA can lower blood pressure and might have additive effects in patients treated with antihypertensives; use with caution.
