Durian Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Herbal Terra
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Durian against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

We hold no effectiveness ratings for durian in our data, so the evidence for what it may or may not do is not established here. If you're considering this product for a specific purpose, ask your pharmacist what the current research shows.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Durian is generally safe as a food in moderation, but it's high in sugar and calories. Because this is a supplement form rather than whole fruit, data on safety at supplement doses is limited — the caution is to avoid large amounts and to talk with your provider before starting it.
Case reports describe allergic reactions (hives, nasal congestion, runny nose, and throat discomfort with hoarseness) and gastrointestinal upset (diarrhea and vomiting) in some people who ate durian fruit, though these are uncommon. Pregnancy and breastfeeding safety data is not on file for this ingredient — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's appropriate for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
The one medication interaction we have data for is alcohol (ethanol), rated Moderate severity. If you drink alcohol regularly or plan to have alcoholic beverages, confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Durian extract is generally well tolerated as an occasional food, but this supplement form is concentrated and has sparse safety data at higher doses. The main caution is avoiding alcohol — if you drink, check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Talk it over with your own healthcare provider before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or managing a health condition.

Durian by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Durian by Herbal Terra has one documented interaction: with alcohol (ethanol), rated Moderate severity.
There's a traditional belief that durian and alcohol together can be fatal, though published evidence is sparse — one case report from 1941 described an adult in India who developed acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis and died after combining them, but no other deaths have been reported since. A case report also documents abdominal discomfort and flatulence in a patient who ate durian with alcohol.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Because this product is a concentrated liquid extract (not whole fruit), the durian content per dose may be higher than you'd get from eating fresh fruit. If you drink alcohol regularly or plan to have a drink, check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this supplement — they can advise whether the combination is right for you.

Alcohol (Ethanol)
There is a traditional belief that ingestion of alcohol with durian can be fatal. A case report from 1941 describes an adult in India who developed acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis and died after drinking alcohol with durian, but there have been no other published reports since. A study in mice given homogenized durian fruit flesh in 10% ethanol did not demonstrate any toxicity. However, evidence from in vitro research shows that durian extract can inhibit alcohol dehydrogenase. This activity is similar to the effects of disulfiram. In theory, concomitant use might cause effects similar to disulfiram-ethanol reactions. Until more is known, avoid concomitant use of durian and alcohol.
