EAA Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking EAA against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Low disclosure
This powder contains 10 active ingredients, all essential amino acids—building blocks your body uses to build and repair muscle, make enzymes and hormones, and support overall protein function. The blend includes L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-methionine, L-lysine hydrochloride, L-phenylalanine, L-valine, L-histidine hydrochloride, L-threonine, L-tryptophan, and an "Essential Amino Acids" component.
Essential amino acids are ones your body cannot make on its own, so you must get them from food or supplements. The inactive ingredient is sunflower lecithin.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these individual amino acids varies widely. L-lysine is possibly effective for cold sores.
L-methionine is possibly effective for neural tube birth defects prevention, though the other conditions listed (acetaminophen poisoning, hay fever, asthma, colorectal cancer) lack reliable evidence. L-histidine is possibly effective for cholera, but evidence is insufficient for eczema, kidney failure, and rheumatoid arthritis.
L-phenylalanine is possibly effective for vitiligo but appears possibly ineffective for ADHD. L-tryptophan is possibly ineffective for depression, and evidence is insufficient for anxiety, athletic performance, sleep issues, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
L-threonine is possibly ineffective for ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and lacks sufficient evidence for multiple sclerosis and other spasticity conditions. We hold no effectiveness data for L-leucine, L-isoleucine, or L-valine.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these amino acids are generally well tolerated at typical doses. L-methionine, L-lysine, L-histidine, and L-threonine are well tolerated when taken orally at common amounts, though high-dose supplements may cause side effects and warrant medical guidance.
L-phenylalanine can cause anxiety, constipation, headache, heartburn, insomnia, nausea, and sedation; it is unsafe for people with PKU (phenylketonuria). L-tryptophan can cause mild gastrointestinal upset, headache, drowsiness, and lightheadedness.
Historically, a contaminated batch of L-tryptophan in 1989 caused a serious neurological disorder (eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome), but that contamination was traced to a single Japanese manufacturer and most cases have since resolved. Modern L-tryptophan products are considered safer, though caution is still advisable.
Regarding pregnancy and breastfeeding: L-methionine, L-histidine, and others show insufficient safety data during pregnancy and lactation, so you should check with your doctor before use if you're pregnant or nursing. L-phenylalanine and L-tryptophan should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to lack of established safety.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your pharmacist if you take levodopa (Parkinson's disease), any CNS depressants (sedatives, sleep aids, alcohol), serotonergic drugs (antidepressants, migraine medications like triptans), MAOIs (certain older antidepressants), baclofen (muscle relaxant), 5-HT4 agonists (certain bowel or gastric medications), or NMDA antagonists (certain neurological drugs). No interactions are documented for L-methionine or L-histidine in this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This EAA blend is intended for muscle support and protein synthesis, and most of its amino acids are generally well tolerated in food amounts. However, if you take levodopa for Parkinson's disease, any antidepressant or anti-anxiety medication, CNS depressants (sleep aids, sedatives), muscle relaxants, or NMDA antagonists, you should check with your pharmacist before starting this product.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should talk to their doctor first.

EAA by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
EAA by BulkSupplements.com is a 10-ingredient essential amino acid powder that interacts with several medication types.
The most serious interaction is with levodopa, a Parkinson's disease medication—L-phenylalanine in this product competes with levodopa for transport into the brain, which can reduce levodopa's effectiveness and worsen tremor, rigidity, and motor fluctuations.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
L-tryptophan in this blend raises two other Major concerns: it may add to the sedative effects of CNS depressants (sedatives, sleep aids, alcohol), and it theoretically poses a serotonin syndrome risk when combined with serotonergic drugs (antidepressants, migraine medications). L-phenylalanine also interacts with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)—older antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs—at Moderate severity, with a theoretical risk of dangerous blood pressure spikes.
Additionally, L-phenylalanine may reduce absorption of baclofen (a muscle relaxant), and L-lysine may weaken the effects of 5-HT4 agonists (used for certain bowel and gastric disorders), both Moderate and Minor interactions respectively. L-threonine carries a theoretical Major interaction with NMDA antagonists (used in some neurological conditions), potentially reducing their effect.
We could not check L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-valine, or the "Essential Amino Acids" ingredient for interactions. L-methionine and L-histidine were checked and show no documented interactions.
Altogether, these interactions span 407 individual medications. Please check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before starting.

For each ingredient in EAA with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
L-Tryptophan
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-tryptophan with CNS depressants might cause additive sedative effects.
Clinical research shows that L-tryptophan can cause fatigue and drowsiness.
Serotonergic Drugs
Theoretically, combining L-tryptophan with serotonergic drugs might cause additive serotonergic effects.
L-tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with L-tryptophan might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders.
L-Phenylalanine
Levodopa
Phenylalanine, especially in high doses, can reduce the effectiveness of levodopa.
Phenylalanine competes with levodopa for carrier-mediated transport into the brain. The resulting reduction in levels of levodopa in the brain can exacerbate tremor, rigidity, and the "on-off" phenomenon in patients with Parkinson disease.
Baclofen
Concomitant intake of phenylalanine may reduce the intestinal absorption of baclofen.
Phenylalanine and baclofen share the same intestinal carrier for absorption; phenylalanine competitively inhibits the absorption of baclofen, reducing its plasma levels.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (Maois)
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-phenylalanine and non-selective MAOIs might increase the risk of hypertensive crisis.
L-phenylalanine is metabolized to tyrosine. Some evidence suggests that L-phenylalanine, given with the non-selective MAOI pargyline, might prevent the elimination of tyramine, increasing the risk of hypertensive crisis. However, this was not reported in a small number of patients when using L-phenylalanine with the partially selective MAO-B inhibitor, selegiline.
L-Threonine
Nmda Antagonists
Theoretically, threonine might decrease the effects of NMDA antagonists.
Threonine increases central nervous system (CNS) glycine levels. Glycine seems to bind a site on NMDA receptors and enhance the activity of the receptors.
L-Lysine Hydrochloride
5-Ht4 Agonists
Theoretically, lysine may reduce the effects of 5-HT4 agonists.
Animal research suggests that L-lysine is a partial serotonin receptor 4 (5-HT4) antagonist and inhibits diarrhea induced by the 5-HT4 agonist, 5-hydroxytryptophane.
