Here's the gist with chlorpheniramine and L-tryptophan. Chlorpheniramine is mainly an antihistamine, but older allergy meds like this one also gently nudge serotonin activity in the brain. L-tryptophan is a building block your body turns into serotonin, so stacking the two could, in theory, raise serotonin a little more than either alone.

The honest truth is this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances work, not strong real-world data, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you took both, watch for things like extra drowsiness, agitation, shakiness, a racing heart, or sweating. With concentrated tryptophan supplements (not normal food amounts), it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Chlorpheniramine is used to temporarily relieve common allergy symptoms caused by hay fever (allergic rhinitis) or other upper respiratory allergies. These include runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.

These uses are supported across multiple products — including tablets (such as Aller-chlor, Allergy, Allergy Relief, Allergy Time, Anti Allergy, and Chlorpheniramine Maleate), extended-release tablets (Allergy Relief and Chlorphen-12), the oral solution Ed Chlorped Jr, and the inhalers ClorRelief and ClorRelief KIDs.
