Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Eastern Red Cedar Chip Extract, Dry. It's derived from the wood chips of the Eastern red cedar tree and typically used for its aroma or topical application.
The inactive ingredients are alcohol, water, and glycerin — these are the carriers and solvents that make the liquid form work.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We don't hold effectiveness ratings for Eastern Red Cedar Chip Extract in our data, so we can't tell you what the evidence says it does or doesn't do. If you're thinking about using this for a specific purpose, ask your pharmacist what the research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Eastern red cedar oil is generally well tolerated when applied to skin — clinical studies show it doesn't cause skin sensitization or irritation in most people. However, if you swallow it, overdose can cause stomach burning, vomiting, and in severe cases convulsions and coma.
Topically, allergic reactions and irritation are possible in some individuals. During pregnancy, the safety data advise against use — cedar oils may be irritating and safety hasn't been established.
There isn't enough information to know whether it's safe while breastfeeding, so talk with your pharmacist or doctor for personalized advice. Human safety data overall are limited, especially for oral use.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take barbiturate medications (sedatives or sleep aids), double-check with your pharmacist before starting this product. The essential oil may speed up how your body breaks down these drugs and reduce their effect.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're using this for aroma or topical application and don't take barbiturate medications, it's worth a quick check with the tool below. If you take any sedatives or sleep aids, or if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your pharmacist first — the safety data here are limited.

Barbiturates
In mice and rats given hexobarbital or pentobarbital, sleep time is reduced and metabolism of the drug is increased when they inhale essential oil vapor from Eastern red cedar wood chips in their bedding. Cedrol and cedrene in the essential oil are reported to induce liver microsomal enzymes. Theoretically, inhaling Eastern red cedar wood fragrance might reduce the efficacy of hexobarbital or pentobarbital in humans.
