False Unicorn Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking False Unicorn against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: false unicorn root. It's a traditional herbal remedy historically used to support women's reproductive health, though clinical evidence for its effectiveness isn't established in our data.
The ingredient is enclosed in a capsule.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We don't hold effectiveness ratings for false unicorn in our data, so we can't tell you whether it works for any particular purpose based on clinical evidence.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
False unicorn is generally well tolerated by mouth, but large doses have been reported to cause nausea and vomiting. Safety data in humans is limited.
The safety data advises against use in pregnancy because of its traditional use to affect the uterus and lack of safety information. There isn't enough safety information for breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking False Unicorn, check whether you're on any CYP2D6 substrates (antidepressants, pain relievers, heart rhythm medications, and others), CYP3A4 substrates (some blood pressure medications and chemotherapy drugs), or lithium. All three interactions are Moderate in severity and could affect how these medications work in your body.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
False Unicorn may be worth considering if you're interested in traditional herbal support for reproductive health, but it's important to check your medications first—it affects how your liver processes a large number of drugs. If you take any prescription medications, especially antidepressants, pain relievers, blood pressure meds, chemotherapy, or lithium, run them through the checker before you start.
Talk with your pharmacist about whether it's a good fit for you.

False Unicorn by Nature's Sunshine Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
False Unicorn by Nature's Sunshine does interact with medications.
The ingredient false unicorn inhibits two major liver enzymes (CYP2D6 and CYP3A4) that break down many drugs, which means it could raise the levels of those medications in your blood. Both interactions are rated Moderate in severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
False unicorn may increase levels of CYP2D6 substrates—drugs like amitriptyline (an antidepressant), codeine (a pain reliever and cough suppressant), fentanyl (a strong pain patch), and several others used for heart rhythm, dementia, and psychiatric conditions. It may also increase levels of CYP3A4 substrates, including some blood pressure medications (calcium channel blockers like diltiazem and verapamil), and chemotherapy drugs.
Additionally, if you take lithium (a mood stabilizer), false unicorn's diuretic properties might reduce how your kidneys clear it, raising lithium levels and potentially requiring a dose adjustment.
Altogether, these interactions span 730 individual medications. Please check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before you start.

False Unicorn
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates. Some of drugs that are CYP2D6 substrates include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. Drugs that might be affected include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.
Lithium
False unicorn is thought to have diuretic properties. Theoretically, due to these potential diuretic effects, false unicorn might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.
