HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Flaxseed 1000 mg by Natures Craft
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This softgel contains 4 active ingredients: oleic acid, linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, and other fatty acids and phytonutrients sourced from flaxseed oil. These are the fats and plant compounds that make up the supplement.
The capsule itself is made from gelatin, glycerin, purified water, and caramel color — the inactive ingredients that hold it together and give it color.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Oleic acid, one of the main active ingredients here, is possibly effective for high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia) and coronary heart disease. That means there's some preliminary evidence it may help, but it's not definitive.
The effectiveness data we hold doesn't cover the other ingredients in this product, so we can't speak to what the full formula does overall.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Oleic acid from food sources like olive oil is generally well tolerated and recognized as safe in normal amounts. When it comes to concentrated supplements, though, the safety data is thinner.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, food amounts are considered fine, but supplement-level doses haven't been studied enough to know either way — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you during these times.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antidiabetes drugs (oral hypoglycemic medications or blood sugar medications), check your exact medications with the search tool on this page — oleic acid may increase their effects and lower your blood sugar more than expected. We could not check linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, or the other fatty acids and phytonutrients for interactions, so ask your pharmacist if any of those concern you.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
This product may help with cholesterol or heart health based on oleic acid's possibly effective rating. If you take diabetes medication, check your specific drugs with the tool below before starting — oleic acid could raise your blood sugar control.
For pregnancy, breastfeeding, or any questions about whether it's right for you, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist.

For each ingredient in Flaxseed 1000 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Flaxseed Oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, using flaxseed oil in combination with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding.
Small clinical studies show that consuming flaxseed oil might decrease platelet aggregation and increase bleeding time.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining flaxseed oil with other antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical evidence suggests that long-term consumption of flaxseed oil can modestly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while other clinical research shows no effect.
Ezetimibe (Zetia)
Concomitant use of flaxseed oil and ezetimibe reduces the absorption of alpha-linolenic acid from flaxseed oil.
In one clinical study, concomitant consumption of ezetimibe 10 mg daily with flaxseed oil 2 grams providing 1 gram of alpha-linolenic acid daily blocked the absorption of alpha-linolenic acid, resulting in an overall reduction in alpha-linolenic plasma levels from baseline.
