Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • “GABA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid) powder” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label doesn't break down how much of each component you get.

This product contains one active ingredient: GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), a compound your brain naturally makes. The capsule also holds vegetable cellulose and magnesium stearate as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Gamma-aminobutyric Acid (gaba)'s own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: promotes muscle growth, recovery, hormone balance and sleep.
  • We looked for evidence on: Anxiety, Insomnia, Stress, Hypertension, Sleep quality, Relaxation — and 1 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Gamma-aminobutyric Acid (gaba) is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Anxiety (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Gamma-aminobutyric Acid (gaba) is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Hypertension, Insomnia, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The evidence for GABA isn't established in our data. It's been studied for anxiety, ADHD, athletic performance, chronic bronchitis, and cerebral palsy, but the research to date is insufficient to rate whether it actually works for any of these.

Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

GABA is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth short-term, but we don't have good long-term safety data. The most commonly reported side effects in studies are drowsiness, upset stomach, minor throat burning, muscle weakness, and nausea.

One patient reported temporary loss of menstrual periods while taking GABA with another supplement. The safety data advises against using it during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your doctor specifically recommends it.

  • For scale: 419 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you're on blood pressure medications (antihypertensives)—GABA may increase the drop in pressure. Also double-check if you take any CNS depressants, including benzodiazepines, opioids, sleep aids, or sedating antidepressants, since additive sleepiness is possible, though unclear how often it's a real issue.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

GABA might be worth trying if you're curious about relaxation and have no blood pressure medication or sedating drugs on board—but the evidence for its benefits isn't strong yet. If you take anything for blood pressure or sleep, or have any other medications, check them against this product first with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

General Statements

Vegicaps

Promotes muscle growth and recovery Promotes natural hormone balance Promotes healthy and deep sleep Improves relaxation

Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) is commonly referred to as the brain's most potent calming agent due to it's ability to prevent over-stimulation of the brain and initiate a healthy, deep sleep by regulating the firing within the nervous system which can commonly bring about irritability, restlessness, and anxiety. It is also suggested that GABA plays a role in the production and balance of hormones, which could be beneficial to bodybuilders and those seeing an increase in muscle growth as it may provide optimial recovery and metabolism of fat conditions.

Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, taking GABA with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical research shows that GABA can decrease blood pressure in patients with hypertension.

Likelihood Possible Evidence B
Cns Depressants

Theoretically, GABA might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Endogenous GABA has well-established relaxant effects and GABA(A) receptors have an established physiological role in sleep. However, the effects of GABA supplements are unclear, as it is unknown whether exogenous GABA crosses the blood-brain barrier. Although there have been limited reports of drowsiness or tiredness with GABA supplements, these effects have not been widely reported in clinical studies. Additionally, intravenous GABA 0.1-1 mg/kg has been shown to induce anxiety in a dose-dependent manner.

GABA 750 mg Capsules by Muscle Empire: Common Questions

Does GABA 750 mg Capsules by Muscle Empire interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, GABA 750 mg Capsules has a known interaction with 419 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
GABA 750 mg Capsules contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is GABA and what's it supposed to do?
GABA is a chemical your brain naturally produces that helps calm nerve activity. This supplement is marketed for relaxation and sleep, but the evidence we have isn't strong enough yet to say whether it actually works for anxiety, ADHD, athletic performance, or any other condition we've seen it studied for.
What are the most common side effects?
When taken by mouth, the most common side effects reported in studies are drowsiness, stomach upset, minor throat burning, muscle weakness, and nausea. GABA appears generally well tolerated short-term, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied.
Is GABA safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety information about GABA in pregnancy and lactation. The data advises against using it while breastfeeding unless your doctor specifically recommends it. For pregnancy, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.
Can I take GABA if I'm on blood pressure medication?
GABA may lower your blood pressure further, so using it alongside blood pressure medications could increase your risk of low blood pressure (hypotension). Check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.
What's in the capsule besides GABA?
The inactive ingredients are vegetable cellulose and magnesium stearate—these are fillers and binders that hold the capsule together.
