Gluten Arrest contains eight active ingredients, most of them enzymes that help break down food. Lipase, papain, bromelain, lactase, and protease are generally well tolerated short-term at appropriate doses, though allergic reactions can occur in sensitive people — especially to papain and bromelain, which may trigger itching, hives, or rarely respiratory symptoms with airborne exposure. High doses of papain can cause severe stomach irritation or esophageal perforation, and bromelain may cause diarrhea, gas, or stomach upset.

For pregnancy: concentrated papain and unripe papaya products should be avoided. Bromelain is best avoided — safety data is too limited.
