Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains a single active ingredient: graviola, a tropical fruit extract dosed at 500 mg per capsule. The capsule itself includes three inactive ingredients — hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (a binder), vegetable magnesium stearate (a lubricant), and silicon dioxide (an anti-caking agent).

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Graviola product and its label doesn't state a use — see Graviola's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold on graviola doesn't establish that it works for the conditions it's marketed for. The data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate its use for human papillomavirus (HPV), headache, male infertility, or as an insect repellent.

If you're considering this supplement for one of those purposes, there's no solid proof behind it from the studies we have on file.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Here's where we need to be straight with you: regular use of graviola raises safety concerns. Lab studies suggest possible nerve toxicity with long-term use, and the most common side effects reported in trials are nausea and burning stomach pain.

Rarely, people have reported movement disorders and nerve damage (myeloneuropathy) that resemble Parkinson disease. One study found that even small amounts of graviola over time worsened motor and thinking symptoms in people who already had Parkinson disease.

Graviola is rated possibly unsafe in pregnancy and should be avoided while breastfeeding — the safety data just aren't there to support use during either.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This supplement has not been shown to work for the conditions it claims to treat, and its safety profile — particularly with long-term use — has real questions. If you take carbamazepine for seizures, don't start this without talking to us first.

Given the nerve-related concerns in the data, anyone with a neurological condition should check with their pharmacist or doctor before trying it.

Graviola 500 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.

Graviola is an extract from a tropical fruit. It's marketed for HPV, headache, male infertility, and insect repellent, though we don't have solid evidence it works for any of those uses.

No — graviola is rated possibly unsafe in pregnancy and should be avoided while breastfeeding. Not enough safety data exists to support use either way.
What side effects should I watch for?
