Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This supplement contains one active ingredient: graviola, a tropical fruit extract used in herbal medicine. Each capsule holds 650 mg of graviola.
The capsule itself is made from gelatin, microcrystalline cellulose (a plant-based binder), magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide — all standard inactive ingredients that help form and preserve the capsule.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that graviola works for any condition. The data shows insufficient reliable evidence for HPV infection, headache, insect repellency, and male infertility.
If you're considering graviola for one of these uses, talk with your doctor about what the science actually supports and what other options exist.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Regular graviola use comes with real cautions. The most common side effects are stomach pain (epigastrium pain) and nausea — some people reported these after taking graviola leaf extract daily.
More serious but rare side effects include movement disorders and nerve damage (myeloneuropathy) that resemble Parkinson disease symptoms. One large study even found that even small amounts of graviola fruit or tea were linked to worsened movement and thinking problems in people who already had Parkinson disease.
During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data, so the evidence advises against it. While breastfeeding, no reliable safety information exists either, so it's best avoided.
Because human safety data are limited overall, caution is warranted with long-term use.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take carbamazepine (Tegretol) for seizures, graviola may lower its blood levels and weaken its effect — check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Graviola hasn't been proven effective for the conditions it's marketed for, and it carries real safety concerns — especially the rare risk of nerve damage and movement problems with regular use. If you take carbamazepine or have Parkinson disease, this product isn't a fit.
Before starting graviola, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the potential risks make sense for you and whether safer alternatives exist.
