HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Green Bee Propolis by NaturaNectar
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This capsule contains four active ingredients. Brazilian Green Propolis and its water extract are the main players — a bee-derived substance rich in bioactive compounds.
CAPE (caffeic acid phenethyl ester) is another active component, and ferulic acid rounds out the formula. These work together in the propolis blend.
The capsule itself is filled with inactive ingredients: cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide — standard binders and flow agents that help hold the formula together.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for propolis in this product is mixed. It's possibly effective for oral mucositis (mouth sores from cancer treatment) and cold sores (herpes labialis) — meaning there's some clinical support, though more research would help confirm it.
For diabetes, propolis also rates possibly effective. Dengue fever has insufficient evidence in the data we hold, so we can't say either way.
CAPE's effectiveness for athletic performance and obesity is also not established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Propolis is generally well tolerated short term, but allergic reactions are possible — especially if you're sensitive to bee products. The most common side effect is headache; in one trial, about 7% of people taking 250 mg twice daily for four months reported mild headache.
Topically, it can cause contact dermatitis or cheilitis (lip inflammation) in sensitive skin. Severe allergic reactions are rare but can happen.
Because there isn't enough safety data on supplement doses in pregnancy or breastfeeding, the safety data advises against use in both situations. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your individual situation before taking this during pregnancy or while nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel) — propolis may increase bleeding risk. Also confirm if you take medications metabolized by your liver's major enzyme systems (CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP1A2, CYP2C9, CYP3A4, or CYP2E1), as propolis may raise their levels.
If you take levodopa for Parkinson's disease or drugs cleared by your kidneys, check with your pharmacist first.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Green Bee Propolis may help with mouth sores and cold sores, but it interacts with a large number of medications through multiple pathways — especially blood thinners and warfarin. If you take any prescription drugs, check them against the interaction tool on this page before starting.
People allergic to bee products should avoid it. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.

Green Bee Propolis by NaturaNectar Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Green Bee Propolis by NaturaNectar contains Brazilian Green Propolis and CAPE (caffeic acid), both of which interact with medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs — propolis may theoretically increase bleeding risk by inhibiting how platelets clump together. Additionally, propolis may affect how your liver breaks down a broad range of medications, including those metabolized by several major liver enzymes (CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP1A2, CYP2C9, CYP3A4, and CYP2E1).
In theory, high doses could raise blood levels of these drugs. Animal research suggests these effects are modest at typical doses, but the data in people remains limited.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Propolis also theoretically decreases warfarin (Coumadin) effectiveness by lowering INR, a measure of how well the drug thins your blood. CAPE — a compound within propolis — may increase levels of drugs cleared by your kidneys (OAT1 and OAT3 substrates) and could theoretically interact with levodopa, a Parkinson's medication.
Altogether, these interactions span 1,019 individual medications.
Ferulic acid and cinnamic acid, also in this product, we could not check — no data on file. Because propolis affects so many drug-processing pathways, it's especially important to run your exact medications through the checker below before starting.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, propolis might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro research shows that propolis water extract and the propolis constituent, caffeic acid phenethyl ester, can inhibit platelet aggregation. Additionally, evidence from an animal model shows that taking propolis in addition to warfarin decreases INR, suggesting that propolis can decrease the effectiveness of warfarin.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, high doses of propolis might increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that propolis extract can inhibit CYP1A2. However, animal research shows that propolis extract does not significantly affect CYP1A2 activity when administered to rats at doses up to 250 mg/kg. It is postulated that the constituents of propolis that inhibit CYP1A2 in vitro do not have significant effects in vivo due to low bioavailability and hepatic first-pass effect. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, high doses of propolis might increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
In vitro research shows that propolis extract can inhibit CYP2C19. However, animal research shows that propolis extract does not significantly affect CYP2C19 activity when administered to rats at doses up to 250 mg/kg. It is postulated that the constituents of propolis that inhibit CYP2C19 in vitro do not have significant effects in vivo due to low bioavailability and hepatic first-pass effect. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, high doses of propolis might increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that propolis extract can inhibit CYP2C9. However, animal research shows that propolis extract does not significantly affect CYP2C9 activity when administered to rats at doses up to 250 mg/kg. It is postulated that the constituents of propolis that inhibit CYP2C9 in vitro do not have significant effects in vivo due to low bioavailability and hepatic first-pass effect. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, high doses of propolis might increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that propolis extract can inhibit CYP2D6. However, animal research shows that propolis extract does not significantly affect CYP2D6 activity when administered to rats at doses up to 250 mg/kg. It is postulated that the constituents of propolis that inhibit CYP2D6 in vitro do not have significant effects in vivo due to low bioavailability and hepatic first-pass effect. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, propolis might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2E1.
In vitro research shows that propolis can inhibit CYP2E1. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, high doses of propolis might increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Some in vitro research shows that propolis extract can inhibit CYP3A4; however, other in vitro research shows that propolis has no effect on CYP3A4 activity. Furthermore, animal research shows that propolis extract does not significantly affect CYP3A4 activity when administered to rats at doses up to 250 mg/kg. It is postulated that the constituents of propolis that might in inhibit CYP3A4 in vitro do not have significant effects in vivo due to low bioavailability and hepatic first-pass effect. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, propolis might decrease the effectiveness of warfarin.
Animal research shows that taking propolis in addition to warfarin decreases the international normalized ratio (INR). This effect has not been reported in humans.
