Gut Check Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by care/of
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Gut Check against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy
Gut Check is a dietary supplement by care/of with 1 active ingredient. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Gut Check by care/of
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Gut Check contains 2 active ingredients, both beneficial bacteria strains (probiotics). Bifidobacterium longum BB536 and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis B1C1 B are live microorganisms designed to support your gut flora.
The powder also includes inactive ingredients like xylitol, erythritol, and tapioca starch for texture and taste, plus magnesium oxide and other standard excipients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these strains is mixed. Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis B1C1 B shows possibly effective evidence for respiratory tract infections (like colds and flu), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and constipation.
Bifidobacterium longum BB536 has insufficient evidence to establish whether it helps with age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, anxiety, asthma, or athletic performance — meaning the research isn't yet clear enough to say either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both strains are generally well tolerated in healthy people, though the data are limited. Rare gastrointestinal side effects have been reported with Bifidobacterium longum — abdominal discomfort, flatulence, constipation, and in one case a dry cough.
Bifidobacterium lactis commonly causes diarrhea and may rarely cause bloating, abdominal pain, or rash. A serious but very rare concern is bacterial infection (bacteremia) in critically ill or immune-compromised patients, particularly infants.
If you're seriously ill, immune-compromised, or have a mechanical heart valve or recent surgery, talk to your doctor before using this product. For pregnancy and breastfeeding, Bifidobacterium longum is rated possibly safe; we don't have safety data on file for Bifidobacterium lactis in pregnancy or lactation, so discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs (including oral antibiotics for infections), don't take them at the same time as this product — the antibiotics will kill the live organisms. Space them out by a few hours, and ask your pharmacist which timing works best.
No other medication interactions are documented in our data for the active ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're a generally healthy adult looking to support digestive or respiratory health, this product is worth discussing with your pharmacist — especially if you take antibiotics regularly. If you're seriously ill, immune-compromised, or have a central line or recent cardiac surgery, check with your doctor first.
Always separate antibiotic doses from this supplement by several hours.

Gut Check by care/of Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Gut Check by care/of contains two live-organism probiotic strains, and both have documented interactions with antibiotic drugs.
When you take antibiotics at the same time as either Bifidobacterium longum BB536 or Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis B1C1 B, the antibiotics may kill a significant portion of the live organisms in the supplement, reducing its effectiveness. The solution is straightforward: separate when you take them — ask your pharmacist or doctor for the best timing.
