Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: pagoda tree bud and flower extract (dry form). It's used in traditional medicine, though rigorous human safety studies are limited.

The liquid is made with glycerin and water as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Pagoda Tree product and its label doesn't state a use — see Pagoda Tree's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for this ingredient is insufficient. We hold no reliable data showing it works for hemorrhoids or menopausal symptoms.

If those are concerns you're trying to address, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what the research actually supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Pagoda tree flower and bud appear to be generally well tolerated, with no adverse effects reported in the literature — though a thorough safety review hasn't been done. The safety data we hold advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding because there isn't enough information to know it's safe in those situations.

Interestingly, the seed of pagoda tree is flagged as possibly unsafe when used long-term and carries rare reports of serious effects like edema and death, but this product uses the bud and flower, not the seed.

  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 29 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before starting this product, check with your pharmacist or doctor if you take any caffeine-containing medications or supplements, or if you regularly consume caffeine from coffee, tea, or energy drinks. Altogether, these interactions span 29 individual medications.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This is a single-ingredient traditional herbal extract with limited human safety data. If you drink coffee or tea regularly or take caffeine-containing medications, you'll want to check with your pharmacist before adding it — the ingredient may raise your caffeine levels.

If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, the safety data recommend avoiding it. Your own doctor or pharmacist can help you decide if it's right for you.

Caffeine

Theoretically, pagoda tree might reduce the clearance of caffeine.
Pagoda tree contains genistein. Taking genistein 1 gram daily for 14 days seems to inhibit caffeine clearance and metabolism in healthy females. This effect has been attributed to inhibition of the cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) enzyme, which is involved in caffeine metabolism. It is unclear if this effect occurs with the lower amounts of genistein found in pagoda tree.
