Immuno Start Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Mannatech
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Immuno Start against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Immuno Start by Mannatech
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Immuno Start contains 4 active ingredients. Modified citrus pectin is a soluble fiber thought to help with cholesterol levels.
Lactoferrin is a protein naturally found in milk that may support the body's response to infection and iron status. Beta-1,3/1,6 glucans are compounds from yeast and mushrooms that research suggests may help with cholesterol and heart health.
The product also includes colostrum, which we hold no interaction data for. The tablet also contains inactive ingredients — glucose, natural flavors, stearic acid, malic acid, vegetable magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide — which serve as fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Not established
Modified citrus pectin is possibly effective for high cholesterol, though the evidence is limited. Beta-1,3/1,6 glucans are likely effective for high cholesterol and coronary heart disease based on clinical research.
The evidence for pectin and beta-glucans in blood sugar control (prediabetes) and radiation exposure is not established in the data we hold. Lactoferrin may be effective for sepsis and pregnancy-related iron deficiency, but research shows it's likely ineffective for preventing serious complications in newborns.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Modified citrus pectin and beta-glucans are generally well tolerated at typical doses, though concentrated supplements haven't been as thoroughly studied as food-source amounts. Common side effects from pectin include mild gas, loose stools, and diarrhea; allergic reactions (including severe ones) are rare but possible, especially in people with oral allergy syndrome.
Lactoferrin is well tolerated at typical doses, though at very high doses (7.2 grams daily) constipation, diarrhea, and fatigue have been reported. For pregnancy, pectin and beta-glucans at supplement doses lack solid safety data — talk with your doctor first.
Lactoferrin safety in pregnancy is not fully established and should only be used under medical supervision. For breastfeeding, concentrated supplement doses of all three ingredients have limited safety data; the facts note that while lactoferrin occurs naturally in breast milk, supplement safety is not well studied.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take Immuno Start, double-check with your pharmacist if you use lovastatin, tetracycline antibiotics (like doxycycline), or digoxin — pectin may reduce how well these work. Also mention any antihypertensive drugs (blood pressure medications) or immunosuppressants, since beta-glucans may boost their effects or interfere with them.
No interactions are documented for the other ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Immuno Start may be worth considering if you're interested in cholesterol and heart support, and you don't take lovastatin, tetracycline antibiotics, digoxin, blood pressure medications, or immunosuppressants. If you take any of those drugs — or any other prescription medication — check with your pharmacist before starting this product.

Immuno Start by Mannatech Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Immuno Start by Mannatech contains ingredients with documented interactions to several medication types.
The most serious concern is modified citrus pectin, which has moderate-severity interactions with three drug categories. Pectin may reduce how your body absorbs lovastatin (a cholesterol medication), tetracycline antibiotics, and digoxin (a heart medication), potentially making them less effective — in one small study, pectin reduced digoxin absorption by about 62%.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Beta-1,3/1,6 glucans in this product also carry moderate-severity interactions: they may increase the blood-pressure-lowering effect of antihypertensive drugs (raising the risk of low blood pressure), and they may interfere with immunosuppressants by stimulating immune activity when you're trying to suppress it.
Lactoferrin has no interactions documented in our data. We could not check colostrum — no interaction data are on file for it.
Altogether, these interactions span 310 individual medications. If you take any of the medications mentioned above or any other prescription drugs, run them through the checker below before you start this product.

Beta-1,3 / 1,6 Glucans
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking beta-glucans with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Clinical research shows that taking beta-glucans may reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure in some hypertensive individuals.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, beta-glucans might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Some clinical research shows that beta-glucans have immunostimulant effects.
modified Citrus Pectin
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of digoxin, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
A small clinical study shows that taking digoxin with a kaolin-pectin suspension reduces the absorption of digoxin by about 62%. It is unclear if these effects are due to pectin, kaolin, or the combination.
Lovastatin (Mevacor)
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of lovastatin, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
Case reports suggest that concomitant use of pectin and lovastatin might reduce the cholesterol-lowering effect of lovastatin, possibly due to reduced intestinal absorption of lovastatin.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, pectin might reduce the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, potentially decreasing their effectiveness.
A small clinical study shows that taking tetracycline with bismuth subsalicylate in a kaolin-pectin suspension reduces the absorption of tetracycline by about 34%. It is unclear if these effects are due to pectin, kaolin, bismuth subsalicylate, or the combination.
