What’s inside
Full disclosure
MethylPro L-Methylfolate 7.5 mg contains two active ingredients: glycine and calcium L-5-methylfolate (a bioavailable form of folate). The product comes in a vegetarian cellulose capsule.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Glycine is possibly effective for schizophrenia based on available data, though evidence for other conditions—including ADHD, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and cystic fibrosis—is insufficient to rate. Calcium itself is effective for kidney failure, indigestion, low blood calcium (hypocalcemia), and high potassium (hyperkalemia), and is likely effective for osteoporosis.
Effectiveness data for the folate component itself is not on file with us.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Glycine is generally well tolerated at typical doses, though long-term safety data are limited. Rare side effects include mild sedation, irritability, insomnia, fatigue, memory problems, headache, soft stools, nausea, vomiting, and stomach discomfort—all resolve quickly if you stop taking it.
Calcium is generally safe at recommended amounts; very high doses can cause constipation, diarrhea, stomach upset, and rarely kidney stones or a serious condition called calciphylaxis. Some epidemiological evidence suggests very high calcium intake (over 1,500 mg daily) may be linked to increased prostate cancer risk, though this remains debated.
For pregnancy, calcium at recommended amounts is considered likely safe and important for fetal development. During breastfeeding, recommended amounts are safe and adequate for milk production; check with your provider on dosing.
Pregnancy and lactation safety data for glycine are not on file.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take the HIV drugs dolutegravir or elvitegravir, the antibiotic ceftriaxone, the antipsychotic clozapine, or the thyroid, heart, or blood pressure medications listed above—especially the HIV and antibiotic interactions, which are Major severity. Calcium can significantly reduce how well these drugs work or create dangerous complications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product's main value is as a folate supplement, but the calcium content creates multiple drug interactions—most serious with HIV medications and ceftriaxone. If you take any of those drugs, or levothyroxine, sotalol, diltiazem, clozapine, or calcipotriene, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Even if you don't take those specific medications, run your complete medication list through the interaction checker on this page.

L-Methylfolate 7.5 mg by MethylPro Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
MethylPro L-Methylfolate 7.5 mg contains glycine and calcium, both of which have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is calcium's interaction with HIV integrase inhibitors—specifically dolutegravir and elvitegravir—where calcium can significantly reduce drug levels, classified as Major severity. Calcium also carries a Major interaction with the antibiotic ceftriaxone when given intravenously, risking dangerous precipitation in the lungs and kidneys.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Calcium moderately interacts with several other medications: the HIV drug raltegravir (which may have reduced effectiveness), the thyroid medication levothyroxine (where calcium blocks absorption), the blood pressure drug sotalol (same absorption issue), the psoriasis treatment calcipotriene (raising the risk of high blood calcium levels), and the heart medication diltiazem (potentially reducing its effect). Glycine has one documented Moderate interaction—with clozapine, an antipsychotic where glycine may worsen schizophrenia symptoms.
Altogether, these interactions span 169 individual medications. We could not check the folate component of this product for interactions—it's listed as a blend container.

Glycine
Clozapine (Clozaril)
Theoretically, glycine might decrease the effectiveness of clozapine.
One small clinical study in patients with schizophrenia shows that adding glycine to clozapine therapy worsens symptoms of schizophrenia when compared with clozapine alone. The mechanism of this interaction is unclear.
