Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: L-tyrosine, an amino acid your body uses to make neurotransmitters and thyroid hormones. Each capsule delivers 500 mg.

The capsule itself and the other ingredients inside are inactive — they're there to hold the tyrosine together and help it dissolve when you swallow it.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: supports healthy brain function.
  • We looked for evidence on: Cognitive function, Memory, Fatigue, Stress, Sleep deprivation, Athletic performance — and 3 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Tyrosine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Cognitive function (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Tyrosine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Memory.
  • Also on file: Tyrosine is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance.

L-tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a genetic condition that affects how your body handles this amino acid. It's possibly effective for cognitive function and memory — the data suggests some benefit, but more research would help confirm how much.

For athletic performance, the evidence suggests it's probably not effective. For alcohol use disorder and dementia, we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

L-tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though we don't have thorough safety data from large studies. The most common side effects are fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea — most people don't experience them.

Higher doses (150 mg/kg, which is much more than this 500 mg capsule) can trigger headache and fatigue. Before you start taking it regularly, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

We don't have enough safety data for pregnancy — there isn't a clear answer either way, so discuss it with your doctor if you're pregnant or planning to be. The same goes for breastfeeding; caution is advised because the data is limited.

Talk with your healthcare provider or pharmacist about whether it's right for you in these situations.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Tyrosine.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: Parkinson's medications.
  • For scale: 21 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check with your pharmacist or doctor if you're on levodopa (Parkinson's medication) — separate the doses by at least 2 hours to keep levodopa working well. Also check if you take any thyroid hormone medications, because tyrosine might add to their effect.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

L-tyrosine is effective for PKU and shows some promise for focus and memory. If you take levodopa or thyroid medication, you'll need to check your dose with your pharmacist or doctor first — the interaction is manageable with the right timing, but it matters.

It's generally well tolerated, though fatigue, headache, and nausea can happen. Run your full medication list through the interaction checker on this page, then talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting.
