What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking L-Tyrosine against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-Tyrosine, an amino acid your body uses to make neurotransmitters and thyroid hormones. L-Tyrosine is the entire formula—there are no other active ingredients.
The product comes as a powder with no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
L-Tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a genetic condition that requires careful management of amino acids. For cognitive function and memory, the evidence suggests it may be helpful, though the data isn't definitive.
For athletic performance, the evidence doesn't support its use. We don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works for alcohol use disorder or dementia.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but you should talk to your healthcare provider before using it regularly. The most common side effects are fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea.
Higher doses (around 150 mg per kilogram of body weight) are more likely to cause headache and fatigue; these effects often improve if you lower the dose. There isn't enough safety data during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using L-Tyrosine if you take levodopa (a Parkinson's medication) or thyroid hormone replacement therapy. Both are Moderate-severity interactions, and timing or dosing may need adjustment.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-Tyrosine is worth considering if you're looking to support cognitive function or memory and you don't take Parkinson's or thyroid medications. If you do take those drugs, you'll need to talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's safe for you and how to time your doses.
Start with your own healthcare provider before adding this to your routine.

L-Tyrosine by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Tyrosine by BulkSupplements.com interacts with medications used for Parkinson's disease and thyroid conditions.
The most serious interaction is with levodopa (a Parkinson's medication): tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in your gut, which could make the levodopa less effective. If you take levodopa, separate your L-Tyrosine dose from it by at least 2 hours.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
L-Tyrosine may also have additive effects with thyroid hormone medications (like levothyroxine). Because tyrosine is a building block for thyroid hormones, taking it alongside thyroid medication could theoretically increase your thyroid hormone levels beyond what your dose is meant to deliver.
Altogether, these interactions span 21 individual medications.
Before you start L-Tyrosine, check your exact medications with the tool on this page—especially if you take a Parkinson's drug or thyroid hormone replacement.

L-Tyrosine
Levodopa
Theoretically, tyrosine might decrease the effectiveness of levodopa.
Tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in the proximal duodenum by the large neutral amino acid (LNAA) transport system. Advise patients to separate doses of tyrosine and levodopa by at least 2 hours.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, tyrosine might have additive effects with thyroid hormone medications.
Tyrosine is a precursor to thyroxine and might increase levels of thyroid hormones.
