What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking L-Tyrosine against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-Tyrosine, an amino acid your body uses to make neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) and thyroid hormones. There are no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
L-Tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare genetic condition. The evidence is possibly effective for cognitive function and memory, meaning some studies suggest it may help but the proof isn't solid yet.
For athletic performance, the evidence leans toward it being possibly ineffective. The data we hold doesn't establish effectiveness for alcohol use disorder or dementia.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but talk to your healthcare provider before you start using it regularly. The most common side effects are fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea—especially at larger doses.
Higher doses (around 150 mg per kg of body weight) are more likely to trigger headache and fatigue. There isn't enough safety data during pregnancy or while breastfeeding; discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before starting if you take levodopa (Parkinson's medication)—separate the doses by at least 2 hours to avoid reduced effectiveness. Also confirm with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on thyroid hormones, since L-Tyrosine might increase their effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-Tyrosine may support memory and thinking if the evidence holds up for you, and it's definitely effective for PKU. If you take levodopa or thyroid medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist first—this supplement can interfere with both.
Start a conversation with your own healthcare provider before adding it to your routine, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take regular prescriptions.

Levodopa and L-Tyrosine compete for absorption in your small intestine using the same transport pathway. This competition might make levodopa less effective at controlling your symptoms.
If you take levodopa, separate your L-Tyrosine dose from it by at least 2 hours.
Thyroid hormone medications may have added effects when combined with L-Tyrosine, since tyrosine is a building block for thyroid hormones and might push your thyroid hormone levels higher. Altogether, these interactions span 21 individual medications.
