Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This is a single-ingredient product: L-tyrosine, an amino acid your body makes naturally and uses to build proteins and brain chemicals. The capsule itself is made from vegetable material.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Mental focus, alertness, stress, and mood support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Cognitive function, Fatigue, Memory, Narcolepsy — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Tyrosine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Cognitive function (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Tyrosine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Memory.
  • Also on file: Tyrosine is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance.

The science backs L-tyrosine for one thing: treating PKU (phenylketonuria), a rare genetic condition. For cognitive function and memory, the evidence is possibly helpful — some studies suggest a benefit, but more research is needed.

For athletic performance, it looks possibly ineffective. For alcohol use disorder and dementia, there isn't enough reliable evidence to say either way yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The most common side effects in people who took it were fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea — usually at higher doses.

No serious adverse effects have been documented, though a full safety evaluation hasn't been done. Before taking it regularly, talk with a healthcare provider.

There isn't enough safety data during pregnancy, and breastfeeding safety data is also limited — talk to your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing.

Check before starting if you take levodopa (a Parkinson's medication) — you'll need to space doses 2 hours apart. Also double-check if you're on thyroid hormone medication.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

L-Tyrosine is a straightforward amino acid supplement that works for PKU and shows promise for brain function. If you take levodopa for Parkinson's or thyroid hormone medication, check with your pharmacist first — timing matters.

For everyone else, the biggest caution is just making sure you know what you're using it for and that your provider agrees.

How can one product interact with so many drugs?
100% Pure L-Tyrosine 500 Milligrams contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is L-tyrosine actually for?
It's an amino acid your body uses to make proteins and brain chemicals like dopamine and norepinephrine. It's proven to help treat PKU, and some evidence suggests it may support memory and cognitive function — though more research is needed for those uses.
Will this help me focus or think clearer?
Possibly. The evidence for memory and cognitive function is "possibly effective," meaning some studies suggest a benefit but it's not definitive yet. Your results may vary.
