What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product has one active ingredient: lycopene 10 mg per softgel. Lycopene is a carotenoid — a natural red pigment — that comes from tomato extract in this formulation.
The softgel capsule also contains inactive ingredients (rice bran oil, gelatin, glycerin, purified water, medium chain triglyceride oil, yellow beeswax, and silica) that help deliver the lycopene.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for lycopene is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for prostate cancer — the strongest evidence in the data we hold — but rated possibly ineffective for bladder cancer and diabetes.
The data on lycopene for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), ALS, and exercise-induced asthma show insufficient evidence to say whether it works. If you're considering this for one of those conditions, talk with your doctor about what the research actually supports for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lycopene from food is considered safe, and supplement doses are generally well tolerated. The most common side effects from supplements are gastrointestinal — diarrhea, flatulence, bloating, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and loss of appetite.
A case of chest pain was reported in one pregnant person taking a different lycopene product, but whether lycopene caused it isn't clear. For pregnancy, the safety data is limited but doesn't advise against supplements at the doses studied — talk with your doctor before starting.
For breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data on supplements, so check with your doctor or pharmacist first. Food amounts of lycopene are fine either way.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check this product with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (such as warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, or similar medications). Lycopene may increase bleeding risk when combined with these drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Lyc-O-Mato Lycopene may be worth considering if you're interested in prostate health support, though the evidence is modest. If you take any blood thinner or antiplatelet medication, you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the interaction is documented and real.
For pregnancy or breastfeeding, talk it over with your healthcare provider first to make sure it's right for you.

Lyc-O-Mato Lycopene 10 mg by Swanson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Lyc-O-Mato Lycopene 10 mg by Swanson carries a documented interaction through its lycopene content with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (medications that prevent clots).
Lab research shows lycopene itself has antiplatelet effects — meaning it may theoretically increase bleeding risk if you're already on a blood thinner like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel. Altogether, these interactions span 122 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The interaction is rated Moderate, so this isn't something to ignore if you take any blood thinner or antiplatelet medication. The concern is theoretical based on how lycopene behaves in the lab, but the effect is real enough to warrant a conversation with your doctor or pharmacist before you start.
If you're on any of those medications, run your exact prescriptions through the interaction checker on this page to see which ones are affected.
