Lycopene from food is well tolerated, and supplement doses are generally well tolerated too. The most common side effects from lycopene supplements are gastrointestinal — diarrhea, gas, bloating, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and loss of appetite.

Tomato extracts are also well tolerated in typical amounts; however, tomatine (a compound in tomato leaves and unripe green tomatoes) can cause serious effects like slow heart rate, respiratory problems, and spasms if consumed in very large amounts. One case of chest pain was reported in a pregnant patient taking a lycopene product, though a direct link was not established.

In vitro and animal research suggests that rosemary inhibits platelet aggregation.

Theoretically, taking rosemary with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research shows that rosemary extract can decrease blood glucose levels in diabetic models. However, research in humans is conflicting. Although rosemary powder decreased blood glucose levels in healthy adults, no change in blood glucose levels was seen in adults with type 2 diabetes, most of whom were taking antidiabetes drugs.
