Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Mangosteen Gold contains one active ingredient: mangosteen fruit extract. It's a liquid formulation, with water and citric acid as inactive ingredients.

The mangosteen plant—a tropical fruit—has been studied for a range of potential health uses, and this product concentrates its compounds into supplement form.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Mangosteen's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Mangosteen for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Periodontitis — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for mangosteen is mixed depending on what you're taking it for. It's possibly effective for gum disease (periodontitis) based on the data we hold.

For male-pattern hair loss, Alzheimer's disease, and eczema, though, the evidence isn't established well enough to rate—we just don't have reliable data yet on whether it actually works for those.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Mangosteen is generally well tolerated as a food, but long-term safety of concentrated supplements like this one hasn't been thoroughly studied. In trials at doses up to 560 mg daily, a small number of people reported mild tiredness, headache, dizziness, malaise, and gastrointestinal symptoms like constipation, bloating, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea—though it's unclear if mangosteen caused them.

Some also reported dry throat, cough, and flu-like symptoms. The safety data advises against supplement amounts during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro and animal research shows that gamma-mangostin, a constituent of mangosteen, is a potent and competitive antagonist of the serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor. Antagonism of the 5-HT2A receptor is believed to reduce platelet aggregation.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Donepezil (Aricept)

Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with donepezil might increase the effects of donepezil.
Animal research shows that concomitant use of an aqueous extract of mangosteen pericarp with donepezil increases brain concentrations of donepezil at 4 hours by 64% without associated effects on systemic exposure.
