Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: marjoram powder. Marjoram is a culinary herb traditionally used for flavoring, and this powder form delivers the dried leaf in its whole form.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Marjoram product and its label doesn't state a use — see Marjoram's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for marjoram's effectiveness is not established in the data we hold. Our records show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for asthma, Parkinson disease, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and dysmenorrhea.

If you're considering this product for a specific health goal, talk with your pharmacist about what the research actually supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Marjoram is generally well tolerated as a food seasoning. Concentrated extracts and essential oils, though, have limited human safety data, so caution is advised if you're using this powder in medicinal or concentrated amounts rather than as a culinary spice.

In pregnancy, the safety data advises against medicinal or concentrated doses; food amounts are likely fine, but for personalized advice, talk with your doctor or pharmacist. Some people have reported allergic skin reactions.

A small number of trial participants with pre-existing childhood eczema developed allergic contact dermatitis after extended use of essential oils including sweet marjoram. One case report describes a woman whose perioral dermatitis (a skin rash around the mouth) flared after eating marjoram-seasoned food and cleared when she stopped—then returned when she tried marjoram again.

  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 338 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product in medicinal amounts, check your exact medications if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or warfarin), anticholinergic medications, or cholinergic drugs. No interactions are documented for this product as a food-level seasoning, but medicinal doses carry documented interaction risks.

Anticholinergic Drugs

In vitro research suggests that marjoram extract can inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Theoretically, using marjoram in medicinal amounts along with anticholinergic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of marjoram or the anticholinergic agent.
Some anticholinergic drugs include atropine, benztropine (Cogentin), biperiden (Akineton), procyclidine (Kemadrin), and trihexyphenidyl (Artane).

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

In vitro research suggests that marjoram extract inhibits platelet aggregation and adhesion. Theoretically, marjoram might increase the risk of bleeding when used in medicinal amounts along with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
Some anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cholinergic Drugs

In vitro research suggests that marjoram extract can inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity. Theoretically, using marjoram in medicinal amounts along with cholinergic drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of cholinergic side effects.
Cholinergic drugs include bethanechol (Urecholine), donepezil (Aricept), echothiophate (Phospholine Iodide), edrophonium (Enlon, Reversol, Tensilon), neostigmine (Prostigmin), physostigmine (Antilirium), pyridostigmine (Mestinon, Regonol), succinylcholine (Anectine, Quelicin), and tacrine (Cognex).

Marjoram Leaf Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection: Common Questions

Does Marjoram Leaf Powder by TerraVita Premium Collection interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Marjoram Leaf Powder has a known interaction with 338 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Marjoram Leaf Powder contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is this safe to use during pregnancy?
Medicinal or concentrated amounts are not advised in pregnancy because we don't have enough safety data. Food amounts—using it as a seasoning—are likely fine, but for your personal situation, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
Can I take this if I'm on a blood thinner like warfarin?
Lab research suggests marjoram might increase bleeding risk if used in medicinal amounts alongside blood thinners. Before you start, check your exact medication with the interaction checker on this page or ask your pharmacist.
Does marjoram actually help with asthma or other conditions?
The evidence we have is not strong enough to say. For asthma, Parkinson disease, PCOS, and dysmenorrhea, we don't hold sufficient reliable evidence to rate whether marjoram helps. Talk with your doctor about what's proven for your condition.
Are there any side effects?
As a food seasoning, marjoram is generally well tolerated. In medicinal or concentrated forms, the main concern we see is allergic skin reactions—rare, but possible, especially if you have a history of eczema. One person reported a skin rash around their mouth that cleared when they stopped eating marjoram-seasoned food.
Is this powder pure marjoram, or does it have fillers?
This is pure marjoram powder with no inactive fillers or other ingredients added.
