Phosphatidylcholine is rated possibly effective for ulcerative colitis (an inflammatory bowel condition), meaning there is some evidence to support its use, but more research would strengthen confidence in that claim. For nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), alcohol-related liver disease, Alzheimer disease, and anxiety, the evidence on file is insufficient to rate effectiveness — we simply don't have enough reliable data to say whether it works for these uses.

High doses — particularly 30 grams per day or more — are more likely to cause digestive upset and diarrhea. Choline (which your body gets from phosphatidylcholine) is needed during pregnancy, but safety data on supplement use beyond what you get from food is limited.
