What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 1 active ingredient: motherwort whole herb extract. It's a powder form with no other inactive ingredients listed.
Motherwort is a plant traditionally used to support women's health, and this extract captures the active compounds from the whole herb.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The data we hold shows motherwort is possibly effective for bleeding. For other uses — including anxiety, amenorrhea (missing periods), asthma, and alcohol use disorder — there isn't enough reliable evidence to say whether it works.
If you're considering motherwort for one of those conditions, it's worth talking through the strength of the evidence with your pharmacist or doctor.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
When taken by mouth, motherwort is generally well tolerated, though human safety data are limited and it's best used short-term in healthy adults. The most common side effects are diarrhea and stomach irritation.
In higher amounts — more than 3 grams — it may cause uterine bleeding. Topically, it can cause contact dermatitis and photosensitivity (a reaction to sun exposure).
The safety data advises against use in pregnancy, as motherwort is traditionally thought to stimulate the uterus. There's no information on file about its safety during breastfeeding — talk with your pharmacist or doctor if you're nursing.
