Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Nascent Iodine contains 1 active ingredient: iodine itself, in liquid form. Iodine is an essential mineral your body needs for thyroid function and metabolism.
The inactive ingredients are ultra pure water, sorbic acid (a preservative), and fulvic acid.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Iodine is likely effective for preventing thyroid damage from radiation exposure and for treating iodine deficiency. There's also possibly effective evidence for iodine in oral mucositis (mouth inflammation) and periodontitis (gum disease), though the evidence for those uses is less established.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Iodine is well tolerated in normal dietary amounts, but high doses can cause thyroid problems — that's the main caution. In pregnancy, adequate iodine is important for your baby's development, but use only the amount your doctor recommends and avoid high-dose products; the same goes for breastfeeding, since excess iodine can pass into breast milk.
Common side effects at higher intakes include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal upset, headache, metallic taste, and thyroid changes. Rarely, some people can have a hypersensitivity reaction with symptoms like swelling, rash, fever, or joint pain.
Taking iodine chronically or in very large amounts has also been linked to acnelike skin lesions (iododerma).
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting if you take lithium, antithyroid drugs (like methimazole or PTU), or amiodarone — all have Moderate-severity interactions with iodine that require thyroid monitoring.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Nascent Iodine may be right for you if you're iodine-deficient or need it for radiation protection, and it's generally well tolerated at normal doses. If you take lithium, antithyroid drugs, or amiodarone, or if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — they'll want to monitor your thyroid and make sure the dose is safe for you.

Formula
The body most easily absorbs and utilizes ionically-charge iodine in its nascent form. This form of iodine is in its highest energetic-state and maintains its natural negative electromagnetic charge. This allows it to easily bond and be absorbed by the cells and body. Our Nascent Iodine is sourced from ancient salt deposits deep below the earth's crust. Iodine is an essential mineral that plays a crucial role in hundreds of bodily processes. It is one of the most commonly deficient minerals because it is missing from our food supply.

Nascent Iodine by Triquetra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Nascent Iodine by Triquetra does interact with several medications, mainly through effects on thyroid function and iodine levels.

For each ingredient in Nascent Iodine with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Iodine
Amiodarone (Cordarone)
Combining iodine with amiodarone might cause excessively high iodine levels.
Amiodarone contains 37.3% iodine and can increase iodine levels. Concomitant use with iodine might increase the risk of having excessive iodine levels and adversely affecting thyroid function. Monitor thyroid function.
Antithyroid Drugs
Iodine might alter the effects of antithyroid drugs.
Iodine in high doses has been reported to cause both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, depending on the individual's past medical history. Taking iodine while using antithyroid drugs could alter the effects of the antithyroid drugs.
Lithium
Combining iodine with lithium might have additive hypothyroid effects.
Lithium can inhibit thyroid function. Several case reports suggest that concomitant use of lithium and potassium iodide can reduce thyroid function in otherwise healthy adults. Monitor thyroid function.
