Nettle Extract Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Nettle Extract against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: nettle root extract. The powder contains no other inactive ingredients listed — it's just the extract itself.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for nettle is mixed. For diabetes, the data suggests it's possibly effective — some clinical research shows nettle may help lower blood sugar.
For other conditions — hay fever, anemia, asthma, benign prostate enlargement (BPH), and gum inflammation — we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works. If you're considering nettle for any of those, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about what the current science supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Taken by mouth, nettle is generally well tolerated in most adults, though a small number of people report constipation or diarrhea. One rare case of liver damage (hepatitis) was reported after extended use of a detox tea that included nettle and other herbs, and the patient required hospitalization — so liver problems are possible but uncommon.
Nettle is not recommended during pregnancy because there isn't enough safety data and there are traditional concerns about its effects on the uterus. Safety during breastfeeding hasn't been established either, so you should avoid it and talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.
If you touch the raw plant, expect localized itching, rash, and stinging; in rare cases of direct contact with the mouth or throat, swelling can occur.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist before taking this product if you use warfarin or other blood thinners (Moderate risk — nettle's vitamin K may reduce their effect), diabetes medications (Moderate — additive blood sugar lowering), water pills or diuretics (Moderate — nettle may intensify fluid loss), or lithium (Moderate — nettle may raise lithium levels).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Nettle root extract may help lower blood sugar in people with diabetes, though evidence for other uses is thin. Before you start, check your medications — especially blood thinners, diabetes drugs, water pills, and lithium — with your pharmacist using the tool on this page.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Nettle Root Extract by BulkSupplements.com has documented interactions with several medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners like warfarin (Coumadin) — nettle contains significant amounts of vitamin K, which at large doses may interfere with how warfarin works and reduce its ability to prevent clots.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Nettle may also have additive effects with diabetes medications. Since nettle itself can lower blood sugar (glucose), combining it with your diabetes drug could push levels too low.
Similarly, nettle has diuretic properties — meaning it increases urination — so taking it with water pills (diuretics) could intensify that effect. If you take lithium for mood disorders, nettle might reduce how your body clears it, raising lithium levels to unsafe ranges; your dose might need adjustment.
Altogether, these interactions span 163 individual medications. Use the medication checker below to look up your exact drugs before you start this product.
