Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Stinging nettle is possibly effective for diabetes — research suggests it may help lower blood sugar in people with the condition. For hay fever (allergic rhinitis), anemia, asthma, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), and gingivitis (gum inflammation), we don't have enough reliable evidence in our data to say whether it works.

When taken by mouth as directed, stinging nettle is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects are constipation or diarrhea.
There are rare case reports of liver injury linked to herbal products containing stinging nettle, though these involved other ingredients too — it's something to be aware of. Stinging nettle is not safe in pregnancy.
Safety during breastfeeding hasn't been established, so avoid it until you've talked with your doctor or pharmacist. If you're pregnant or nursing, this product is not for you right now.

Theoretically, stinging nettle might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.

Animal research suggests that the above ground parts and roots of stinging nettle may have a diuretic effect.
Lithium
Theoretically, stinging nettle might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that stinging nettle has diuretic and natriuretic properties, which could alter the excretion of lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is some concern that stinging nettle might decrease the effects of anticoagulant drugs such as warfarin.
Stinging nettle contains a significant amount of vitamin K. When taken in large quantities, this might interfere with the activity of warfarin.
